Renovations to the 200- year- old
building have taken longer than planned
.
Crews first expected to make
minor repairs to the exterior stucco.
That's before discovering a
coating that was keeping water in,
creating a breeding ground for mold.
Meanwhile, restoration of
decorative paint inside the House and
Senate chambers continues.
Other improvement projects in the
mix- include the renovation of the
Virginia Supreme Court building.
A structure built in three parts
starting in 1919, that has asbestos,
lead paint and a bad roof.
The General Assembly Building is
also on the list.
Its problems include an outdated
fire- alarm system.
