The search for a missing plane
ended this morning in Halifax County.

Searchers found the wreckage of
the two seater plane near the community
of Elmo, not far from the
Halifax-Pittsylvania County line.

When firefighters hook a hose to a
hydrant they expect water to come
rushing out.. But that was not the
case Sunday at a house fire in Roanoke
County.

Jean-- you looked into what may
have happened..

Keith .. first of all East Roanoke
County gets its water from Vinton and
according to the town manager an
inspection showed problems with that
hydrant more than a year ago.

hydrant was checked in the summer of
2005 and a report showed water was not
flowing particularly well then-

ENG=2 in fact the hydrant in question tested

at just 92 gallons a minute--

In contrast the hydrant up the hill

tested yesterday at 993 gallons a
minute. The one down the hill at 716
gallons a minute--- The hydrants

above and below the one in question are
yellow and therefore put out more
water.. but the red hydrant.. at 92 is
still too low.

Sunday It was that hydrant that did not
have good pressure on Sunday when
firefighters were working a house fire.

Now Boggess says they are checking
to see why nothing was done after the
inpection last summer.

In the meantime.. a crew will head
back out to the Falling Creek
Subdivision this week--- to find out

why the pressure's so low-

still haven't found a missing canoeist.

A 23 year old former pitcher at
U-N-C Charlotte, Erik James Walker
disappeared Saturday afternoon.

near Independence with a friend, when
their canoe capsized.

Walker went under in deep water,
as they were trying to get back to
land.

Scent dogs are being used to
locate Walker's body.

This is the fourth day of the

shooting that happened last week.

18-year-olds David Desha Calloway
and Israel Antonio Cunningham are both
facing malicious wounding charges.

Roanoke police were called to the
14- hundred block of Melrose Avenue
Thursday morning. When they got there
they found Carlos Eugene Smith had been
shot....he was taken to the hospital
and later released.

GRAPHIC=CRIME Police have identified the man they

believe robbed the Stonewall Service
Station in Allegheny County as
35-year-old Kenneth Richard Hoke of
Lewisburg.

They believe this may not be his

first hold up. He faces similar charges
in West Virginia.

Police say Hoke walked into the
store around 8:30 last night, showed
the clerk a knife, demanded money and
ran.

Dogs were able to track his scent
to an area near exit 10 along
Iinterstate-64. That's where police
believe a getaway car was waiting.

Additional charges may be pending
against the woman believed to be the
driver.

hoping Governor Tim Kaine will help
them "derail" Norfolk Southern's plan
for a rail center.

The board of supervisors passed a
resolution last night calling on the

Semones (Se-mone-us) says about
six years ago Carroll County farmers
and agriculture officials met with
regional buyers to find out what crop
they should focus on.

The buyers asked for pumpkins.

Many of them end up in the deep
south, but this year growers have sent
some north.

there's word that A.J. Allmendinger -
the open wheel CHAMP racing champ wants
to try and make the field.

multiyear deal to drive a Toyota on the
Cup circuit full-time starting next
year. He will be a teammate of Brian
Vickers next year on what is being
dubbed Team Red Bull.
