(END SOT) On a Wednesday night in June, more than
6 years ago 23-year-old Lori Pleasants
and a group of friends went here...
to Riley's Bar on Norwood Street. They
stayed until last call for alcohol at
around 1:30 in the morning.
Then they came back to Pleasant's
apartment on Clement Street to continue
to hang out, talk and drink.
According to court records, William
Gutersloh was waiting outside the
apartment and he was invited up to hang
out.
They stayed late, one friend later told
police that when he left around 3 a-m
he saw Gutersloh massaging Lori's feet
on the couch.
INSERT GRAPHICS HERE
Gutersloh told police he was intimate
with Lori and tried to have sex with
her, but was unable to perform. Two
other friends stayed the night, leaving
separately the next morning. Each said
they saw Lori on the bed, but didn't
realized she may have been dead.

Police say Pleasants had been strangled
to death and her wrists were cut after
she was already dead.
What happened inside her apartment on
June 15, 2000 has long been the center
of the police investigation. According
to a search warrant filed in 2000, one
man says William Gutersloh told him
that night that he planned to get
revenge on Lori Pleasants' boyfriend.
GRAPHICS HERE
According to that warrant...
Guttersloh told police that he did NOT
have a good relationship with her
boyfriend-- he says the boyfriend
stolen 160 dollars from him for
marijuana.
Gutersloh also told police he had
assaulted Lori's boyfriend at a bar.
The boyfriend had gone to Richmond the
day before Lori Pleasants was found
murdered.
END GRAPHICS
According to the friends in the
apartment that morning , Gutersloh was
the last person seen with Pleasants
alive.
William Gutersloh has long been a
police suspect, but investigators have
not said what happened this year to
make them finally go ahead with
charges. Gutersloh's attorney says his
client is innocent and that he can not
wait to fight the charges against him.

---TRACK--- SO MANY CHOICES. ---SOT---
I like that, too. ---TRACK--- ONLY ONE
DAY OF THE YEAR FOR THREE YEAR OLD
KATHERINE. ---SOT--- When you get
candy. ---TRACK--- BUT AMID ALL THAT
FUN... THERE'S A LEGITIMATE CONCERN FOR
ADULTS. ---KYUNG STANDUP --- The
National Center for Injury Prevention
and Control says kids are four times
more likely to get struck by a car on
Halloween than on any other day. The
primary reason? There are more cars and
children out on the road. ---SOT---
It's a pretty neat mask, I like it.
---TRACK---- SAFETY EXPERT DAVID
MADARAS SAYS HALLOWEEN COSTUMES CAN
BLOCK VISION AND HEARING. AND WITH
SHORTER DAYLIGHT HOURS... DRIVERS CAN'T
SEE AS WELL. ---SOT--- Vigilant parents
are the number one benefit that the
children are going to have when they're
out on Halloween. ----TRACK--- HAVE
YOUR CHILDREN WEAR GLOW STICKS AND
REFLECTIVE TAPE. MAKE-UP... INSTEAD OF
THE MASK AND LISTEN TO YOUR OWN
ADVICE... LOOK BOTH WAYS BEFORE
CROSSING THE STREET. ---SOT--- Instead
of zig-zagging across the road, go up
one side, cross at a safe spot and come
back the other way. ---TRACK--- ROSS
VAN HORN IS DRESSING UP HIS SON...
---SOT--- As a pirate. ----TRACK--- BUT
SPENDING THE NIGHT AT HOME. ---SOT---
We're gonna dress him up and have a
party inside. ---TRACK--- YOU DON'T
HAVE TO STAY HOME... JUST LET THEM
COLLECT THE TREATS. ---SOT--- Trick or
treat! 'Is that what you say?' Yeah.
---TRACK--- AND YOU WATCH THE ROAD.
------KYUNG ONCAM TAG------- SOMETHING
ELSE TO REMEMBER: HALLOWEEN IS ALSO A
MAJOR ADULT EVENT... AND THAT MEANS
DRINKING. BE MINDFUL OF THE DANGERS OF
DRUNK DRIVERS ON THE ROAD AS WELL...
ESPECIALLY AS IT GETS LATER IN THE
NIGHT. IN WASHINGTON, I'M KYUNG LAH. >>
