Saddam Hussein has been found
guilty and sentenced to die.


Today's guilty verdict against
Hussein for crimes against humanity in
Iraq has sparked a wave of violence and
demonstrations.

As soon as the verdict and death
sentence were handed down, Saddam
supporters in a predominantly Sunni
district of Baghdad battled police with
machine guns.

At least seven-mortar shells
exploded near a Sunni shrine.

About a thousand people in
Saddam's hometown, Tikrit, defied a
curfew to carry pictures of the city's
favorite son through the streets.

The U-S Embassy has issued a
statement saying, closing the book on
Saddam and his regime is "an
opportunity to unite and build a better
future."

Akbar -- God is greatest -- and long
live the nation.

Saddam's lawyer had warned "the doors
of hell would open" if the former
dictator got the death penalty...and

Iraq is bracing for a bloody backlash.

The government has ordered a
LOCKDOWN...a total curfew has been
imposed in Baghdad and beyond.

Saddam and seven co-defendants were on
trial for killing 148 Shiites in a wave
of revenge in the city of Dujail
following a 1982 assassination attempt.

Saddam's half brother Barzan
Ibrahim...and a former judge were also
sentenced to hang.

Former Iraqi Vice President Taha Yassin
Ramadan got LIFE IN PRISON for
premeditated murder.

Three others were found guilty of
murder and sentenced to 15 years behind
bars....and one walked free because of
'insufficient evidence.'

Iraqi Prime Minsiter Nouri al Maliki, a
partisan Shiite, had urged that Saddam
'should get what he deserves,' but
called for calm.

At the start of the trial nine months
ago, it was hoped that Saddam's guilty
verdict would bring a country closer
together -- now, it threatens to tear
Iraq even further apart.

investigating a shooting which left one
man dead and an officer on
administrative leave.

It happened yesterday in an
apartment complex on Frontier Road.

Officer William Wood responded to
a domestic dispute.

Police say when he arrived at the
apartment 30 year-old Melvin Geovanny
Castillo Aguilar answered the door
holding a knife and wouldn't put it

down.

Now, Aguilar's family is
wondering if there wasn't another way
officers could have handled the
situation.

mobile home fire last night.

It started around nine o'clock on
Halifax road.

When units arrived the trailer
was fully engulfed and they couldn't
get in.

Once the fire was out - crews
found 57-year-old Herbert Bowie dead
inside.

Investigators are still looking
into the incident, but do not believe
it was arson.

Bowie's body has been sent to
Roanoke for an autopsy

dead this weekend after a fire broke
out in her home.

road.

Fire officials say it looks like
the fire began in the living room, but
they're not sure how.

Authorities are withholding the
victim's name until they notify her
family.

experience yesterday at the National
Weather Center in Norman, Oklahoma.

it was like a dream come true. The

69-million-dollar National Weather
Center opened its doors to show off the
centerpiece of weather forecasting. The
weather watches and warnings all come
from inside this room.

Meteorologists showed off fancy
weather equipment, and they made sure
children know just how serious weather
can be. Oklahoma University President
David Boren says the new Weather Center
makes Norman the weather capitol of the
nation.

officially re-opened its doors
yesterday after being closed for more
than a year and a half for renovations.

The hotel previously gained fame
as one of the few spots to take in
African American musicians when they
performed in the Star City during the

early 19-hundreds.

Now, the hotel is hoping to make
its mark as an Arts and Cultural
Center.

The total cost of the newly
renovated center was four-point-one
million dollars.
