racketeering case against the Henry

County Sheriff's Department.

Resource Officer David Allan King
turned himself in this morning.

He now lives in Joliet, Illinois.
King is accused of selling drugs
stolen from the sheriff's department
evidence room by way of Ronald
Trantham, among others.

Arrested last Thursday, Trantham
was released today, despite having said
one of the sheriff's deputies "better
watch what he's doing or they'll find
him in a ditch with a bullet in his
[butt].

term for the man who eventually
admitted providing heroin to a local TV

weatherman last Winter.

21-year old Gibert Dennis Hadden
could have gone away for life, if
Meteorologist Marc Lamarre had died.

VO-NAT But Lamarre survived a drug


overdose February 2nd.

So his supplier was sentenced
today ...SMACK in the middle of the
sentencing guideline range of 21 to 27
months.

Hadden was arrested just hours
after Lamarre was reported to be
"unresponsive... without a pulse."

Hadden was charged with heroin
distribution- -though the drug failed
to show up in Lamarre's blood work.

Judge Sam Wilson pointed out
Hadden came very close to getting a
LIFE sentence.

The pre-sentence report says both
of the defendant's parents were crack
addicts, that Gilbert Hadden raised
himself in the projects of urban
Michigan.

Last Night Police say 26-year-old Corey Peters
had already struck another car when he
fled the scene and crashed head-on into
a van carrying a family of four on
Waterlick Road in Bedford County.

Three of them were flown to area
hospitals .. the most seriously injured
was a girl who was taken to the U-V-A
Medical Center.

Peters is listed in serious
condition at a Lynchburg hospital.

decide whether to approve a meals
tax---

VO NAT If the referendum passes.. it
could mean a tax on all food and
beverages sold at restaurants in the
county.

If the referedum passes.. county
supervisors would still have to vote on
a meals tax-and it would go up for a
public hearing.

The most county could tax is four
percent.. or four cents on every

dollar.

The county administrator says a
four percent tax would generate 500-
thousand dollars a year---



He says it would be better than a
real estate tax hike because many
people from out of town eat at local
restaurants- and would help pay the
tax.
