hitting the polls.
There's a number of key issues
and key races to watch.

Bob Grebe is keeping an eye on
voter turnout.
He joins us now from Roanoke
County.

Kimberly, Virginia voting places,
like here at the Brambleton Center,
have been open for close to an hour and
a half now.
Historical data shows clear
trends in voter turnout and what we
should expect to see today.
According to State Board of
Elections statistics,
presidential-election years bring out
around 70-percent of Virginia voters.
In off-year elections, like this
year, voter turnout averages
40-percent.
That number could be higher this
time around with a hotly contested
Senate race that appears to be within
the margin of error.
A big issue locally that will
likely drive folks to the polls is the
Gay Marriage Ban Amendment.
Of course, the war in Iraq,
border security, the economy, gas
prices, the typical dinner-table
politics will also play a factor.

GRAPHIC=Crime A Danville man was shot in an
attempted robbery last night.
It happened at around 7:30 on
Grove Street.
Police say a 23-year-old man was
approached by an unknown black male
armed with a handgun who demanded money
before shooting the man in the
shoulder.
The victim was transported to the
ER for treatment but his condition is
not considered to be life threatening.

poll indicates a big lead heading into
Election Day for Democratic Senate
candidate Jim Webb.

statewide, 52 percent now indicate
they'll vote for Webb.
44- percent favor the Republican
incumbent, George Allen.
The two had been virtually tied in the
previous five polls.
The biggest swing toward Webb is among
Independent voters and those 35 to 49
years old.

approved two revisions to the
University Policies for Student Life.
From here on out, students could face
discplinary action if they misbehave on
other college campuses.
The university now also has the power
to withhold an academic degree due to
