GRAPHIC=Election 2006 Americans are heading to the polls
today.
All 435 House seats, 33 Senate seats
and majority control on Capitol Hill
are at stake.
The Justice Department has
dispatched a record number of
poll watchers to safeguard against
fraud or any potential problems with
electronic voting machines.
Meanwhile, some last- minute polls
suggest a slight momentum swing to the
Republicans, while some Republicans are
saying privately the Democrats could
win back the House.

Kimberly, Virginia voting places,
like here at the Brambleton Center,
just opened the doors in the last few
minutes, so few folks have come out so
far.
But historical data shows clear
trends in voter turnout and what we
should expect to see today.
According to State Board of
Elections statistics,
presidential-election years bring out
around 70-percent of Virginia voters.
In off-year elections, like this
year, voter turnout averages
40-percent.
That number could be higher this
time around with a hotly contested
Senate race that appears to be within
the margin of error.
A big issue locally that will
likely drive folks to the polls is the
Gay Marriage Ban Amendment.
Of course, the war in Iraq,
border security, the economy, gas
prices, the typical dinner-table
politics will also play a factor.
DOUBLE BOXES=Bob and Kim DOUBLE BOXES

to see what's bring folks to the poll
