USA poll, 47 percent of those asked
think his resignation won't make a
difference in the war in Iraq.

27 percent think it'll mean more

success, while 21 percent think it'll
mean less success.

But do viewers think it was the

was correct, while less than a third
think it was wrong.

spend his life in prison...

in Maryland...part of the three-week
shooting spree that terrorized
Virginia, Washington and Maryland in
2002.

Although this latest sentence was
handed down in the state of Maryland,
it is highly unlikely that the

because he's already been sentenced to
life for shootings here in Virginia.

to 1 to deny Gilbert Maxwell a
conditional use permit for his one acre
lot despite the planning commission's
recommendation.

A town ordinance created in the
19-80's was one of the main reasons it
didn't pass even though the planning
commission recommended amending the
ordinance.

Maxwell said he was surprised by
the vote and that young people lost big
last night.

tournament held it's Semi-Finals at
Glenvar. 2 teams came into the Matches
with Undefeated records but only 1
would leave tonight with a zero in the
loss column.

Region C Semifinals The first game of the night saw
Grayson County taking on unbeaten John
Battle and this one went a full 5
games.

The Blue Devils were able to come
out on top. The block attempt by John
Battle goes out of bounds and that

means a win for Grayson County and they
advance to the Regional Final.

The team they would play for the
Regional Championship would be the
winner of Glenvar and Bath County.

Megan Dudley goes off speed for
the Chargers Point and Bath County is
thinking Victory.

But Glenvar was too much and
remains undefeated. Liz Trinchere with
the big putaway and the Highlanders
advance with the 3 games to none
victory over Bath County, scores were
25-12, 25, 17, and 25 to 9 in the final
game.

throughout the year and yesterday was
another. National signing day.

A number of athletes put pen to
paper and signed a national letter of
intent to attend college and play a
sport.

Local Golfers Marshall Bailey
from James River and Aaron Eckstein

from Salem, along with Garland Green
from Tazewell all signed to play golf
at Virginia Tech.

At Cave Spring there was a trio
of signees including gymnast Emily
Matko. She is a Level 10 gymnast at
the Roanoke Academy of Gymnastics,
Emily signed a full scholarship to
tumble for Illinois State University.
The school is located in Bloomington,
Illinois and competes at the Division
1-Double "A" level, with an
undergraduate enrollment of
20-thousand. Matko will major in
Biology with the Redbirds and she's
also well-rounded, participating on the
Knight's Swim Team as well.

She wasn't the only athlete to
decide on a college. Cave Spring will
also send a couple of girls to Radford
University. Chelsea Kelley - the left
handed pitcher for the Knights Softball
team will continue her career on the
diamond for the Highlanders.

She was all-state selection this

past season, leading the Knights to the
State Tournament, Kelly did more than
pitch well, hitting at almost a
5-hundred average.

And last but certainly not least
Rachel Travis, a track and cross
country runner for the Knights, she is
also headed to Radford to run next
year.

for Bud Foster and his Virginia Tech
Defense for a number of years. Last
Season Darryl Tapp held the Work-man
like symbol for the duration of the
Hokie Contests. This Season the
Lunch-pail was taken away after 2
straight losses.

Bud may need to break it out
again and divide it between the
Defensive backfield and the Defensive
Line, because the Hokies have the Top
Ranked Defense against the Pass coming
into their Game against Kent State on
Saturday.

The Hokies are giving up just 131
yards through the air per game.

revealed that Running Back Steve Slaton
will need surgery on his Right Wrist.
Slaton hurt the wrist way back in LAST
Season's game against Connecticut.
Slaton will wait until this season is
over with before having the surgery.

The injury has caused Slaton to
carry the ball in his left hand. Which
was the case when he fumbled against
Louisville, a turnover that was
returned for a touchdown.
