GRAPHIC=Election 2006 It's becoming clear that "conditional
votes" will become a key part of the
statewide "vote count" for Senate.
They are votes cast but not yet
counted because of various legal
questions or challenges.
Late today, the State Board of
Elections added more than 150 precincts
to its Senate vote count. Those are
precincts where a city or county's
provisional ballots are considered only
when a race is very close.

And that's obviously the case for
Senate. With virtually every regular
vote counted, and some conditional ones
now approved and tallied, Jim Webb
maintains a lead of about 75-hundred
votes.

a car hit them.
Authorities are still talking

for spring sports stars who are moving
onto college, and number of athletes
from around the area took advantage of
the day to ink scholarship papers.

Cave Spring put three athletes in
three different sports into college
today including gymnast Emily Matko.
She is a Level 10 gymnast at the
Roanoke Academy of Gymnastics, who is
coached by Barbara Jirka (YERKA).
This afternoon Emily signed a full
scholarship to Illinois State
University, which is a Division One
Double A school with 20,000
undergraduates in Bloomington,
Illinois. She plans to major in Biology
with the Redbirds. Emily also was on
the Cave Spring swim team.
Also this afternoon - Cave Spring
placed a couple of players in the Big
South at Radford University. Chelsea
Kelley - the star left handed pitcher
for the Knights will continue her
career in softball at RU.
She was all-state and the player
of the year in the state last season -
hitting 489.
And Rachel Travis, a track and
cross country runner for the Knights,
also is headed to Radford to run next
year.

offseason with some serious
