and friends, paid their respects to
Zaid Almajali (ZAYD AL-muh-JAH-lee).

Almajali was shot Thursday during
an attempted robbery at the Z-mart on
Melrose Avenue.

Many who came out tonight were
customers.

They said " Z" as they
affectionately called him made Roanoke
a better community.

Brigati served in World War two but at
times he stilll has nightmares of that
experience.

One of the most painful memories
is the day he saw 19 Germans killed
right in front of him.

And he says there are many images
he would rather forget but he still
can't shake such vivid memories as the
day he saw 4 box cars of bodies inside
a German prison camp.

here at the Virginia Veterans Care
Center.

She says its not possible for
them to return home the same after such
a life altering experience. She says
many suffer from post stress syndrome
which is characterized by night sweats
and nightmares of the war.

Iraq last year, says war not only takes
its toll on the veterans but on the
families.

As for Brigati, time has healed
many of his painful war memories.

purple heart and silver star for his

County inmate escape.

Authorities say 23-year-old
Ceasar Tatum was stabbed at the
Martinsville game last night.

He suffered cuts to his head and
right shoulder.

19-year-old Joshau Ayken is
now facing charges of malicious
wounding.

Officials say the fight had
nothing to do with the football game -
but rather an argument they had earlier
in the day.

The decision follows last month's
slaying of a student from Virginia.

Michelle Gardner-Quinn from
Arlington was last seen around 2:30 a-m
on October-seventh as she walked back
to campus after a night out with
friends.

A surveillance camera at a
jewelry store recorded her walking up
Main Street with Brian Rooney.

Rooney is charged with her
killing.

A U-V-M official says the school
is likely to consider adding lighting
and surveillance cameras along Main
Street, where many students travel.
