a Martinsville woman in connection with
an inmates escape.

with accessory after the fact for
allegedly assisting William Marshall
Coe Junior in his continued escape.

She is being held in the Henry
County Jail with no bond.

He escaped last Sunday by
impersonating another inmate who was
scheduled to be released.

Police believe Coe is still in
the local area.

Valley announced they will lay off a
third of its workers.

thousand people beginning in January.

This is the result of stricter
E-P-A emissions standards that will go
into effect then...which means their

hefty duty diesel trucks will cost
75-hundred dollars more.

Management expects truck sales to
drop 40 percent in the first part of
2007.

Workers will be laid off in
phases after the holidays.

Union workers say this was not a
surprise.

night during a fight at the
Martinsville high school football game.

Authorities say 23 year old
Ceasar Tatum suffered lacerations to
his head and right shoulder.

19 year old Joshau Ayken is
now facing charges of malicious
wounding. Both men were actually taken
into custody, but the victim was
released on bond.

Officials say the fight had
nothing to do with the football game -
it was due to an argument earlier in
the day.

Tatum was also treated at the
hospital and released.

of murder and attempted robbery
following the shooting death of a
Roanoke store owner Thursday night.

Thursday Zaid Almajali (ZADE
AL-muh-JAH-lee) was shot and killed at
the Z-mart, the store he owned on
Melrose Avenue.

38- year- old Reginald
Killingsworth was taken into custody
after a brief police pursuit.

The car he was riding in crashed
into a telephone pole at 8th and
Hanover.

The driver of the car, 39- year-
old Mendy Phelps faces a charge of
eluding police.

Both suspects are from Florida.

Now, Almajali's (AL-muh-JAH-lee)
friends and family are mourning the
businessman that many knew simply as
"Z."

Roanoke Police Department says more
retail stores face armed robberies.

should keep limited cash on hand, have

staff should be properly trained for a
threat.

Officers also encourage
businesses to have proper lighting,

circuit cameras to survey the property.

in jail following a drug investigation
that dates back to last year.

October 2005 Harry Keeling Junior was arrested
last October after failing to stop for
a traffic violation, he led police on a
high speed chase resulting in an
accident.

Turns out he was part of a drug
investigation.

He was charged with possession
with intent to distribute cocaine,
eluding police, and obstruction of
justice.

This week in a Roanoke Circuit
Court, Keeling was given his 22 year
sentence.

People who live in the small
mountain town of Index, Washington are

dealing with major problems following
this week's devastating flooding.

VO NAT So much rain fell, rivers rose to
record levels and devastated the town.

There is no power and people have
to walk along railroad tracks to get
in-and-out of the town.

The town of Index is northeast of
Seattle, tucked away in the Cascade
Mountains.

VO NAT Winds up to 40 miles per hour
whipped in the Chicago area yesterday
as chilly rain pounded everything in
sight.

On the lakefront, waves lapped
ashore while people darted from one
place to another trying to escape the
wicked weather.

On area expressways, traffic
slowed to a crawl. The power company
says at one point thousands were
without power.

Problems were also reported at
both airports with hour long delays and
some cancellations.

of her children dead yesterday trapped
inside the trunk of a car.

Authorities say the twin two-year
olds along with their four-year old
sister apparently got into the trunk of
a car parked a few feet from their
apartment door and couldn't get out.

The four-year old was alive but

Goodyear plant in Danville yesterday
morning.

It ended up involving strikers,

temporary workers and the police.

Police had to use pepper spray to
break up a fight between picketers and
two men crossing the picket line.

They also used a taser gun on one
of the two men who had allegedly
attacked a police officer.

21-year-old Kenneth Lamar Harris
and 24-year-old Donnell Trimane Lea are
charged with disorderly conduct ...

of a 106-thousand dollar federal grant.

The money will establish a network
among six black history museums,
located in Roanoke, Lynchburg, South
Boston, Appomattox and Farmville.

Their staff and volunteers will
undergo training and workshops
together, learning from the experts how
to develop exhibits, raise money and
promote their sites.

compelling exhibit on the Jim Crow era,
complete with authentic Klan robes from
the early 1920s.
