GRAPHIC=Fire Firefighters were called in at

around 6-30 this evening to a fire at
the Bondcote (Bond- Coat) factory in
Pulaski.

Authorities believe one of the
machines may have caused the
fire...Now, there were workers inside
the factory at the time....however, NO
injuries were reported.

Crews had the fire out in a short
amount of time.

The factory will be shut down for
a few days....

We're continuing to work on this

Cassell is retiring.

VO-NAT After his indictment last month

for allegedly covering up illegal
activities in his own department, the
sheriff first indicated he would take
an un-paid leave of absence.

Many people urged him to resign.

Today his attorneys issued a
written statement saying Cassell
informed Henry County officials today
of his retirement, effective
immediately.

The statement says he heard the
requests that he "make a more formal
and permanent separation" from the
Sheriff's Department.

He acknowledged that the question
of his employment status has become a
"nearly constant distraction."

Cassell is charged with
obstruction of justice, money
laundering, making false statements to

himself on unpaid administrative leave.

That prompted more questions than
answers because there was no precedent
for it since the sheriff is an elected
official.

temporary injunction that puts limits
on striking steelworkers outside the
Goodyear plant.

benefits protection.

A judge issued an injunction

limits the number of picketers outside

deadline nears for union workers at
MeadWestvaco, steelworkers THERE hit
the picket line for a MOCK strike.

Covington.

Along with the national contract
talks, there are separate negotiations
on local issues.

Their contract expires on
December 1st.

sentenced today to life plus

investigating three serious hunting
accidents, one of them fatal.

Deputies say 53 year old Ronald
Wayne Hamilton of Coeburn, Virginia was
killed Friday afternoon.

He fell 11-feet from a tree stand
while hunting in the Speedwell section

of the county.

And it took rescuers all day to
reach the third victim, 45 year old

suspect almost escaped police.....

a counterfiet ticket at this weekend's
Kent State game in Blacksburg.

Here's a look at the fake....it's
a replica of a student ticket.

Police say a person tried to
enter the stadium Saturday afternoon,
but ticket handlers knew something was
up.

They scanned the ticket and it
wouldn't work.

The person told police they'd

man on the street off of Spring Road.

Police don't have much to go on,
but they are investigating.

Adoption Specialist Sherry Slaughter to
begin her first day on the job!

After criticism for putting too

many animals down.....the Franklin
County Animal Shelter has taken steps
to turn the situation
around....including convincing the

Sherry's position.

Part of her job description is to
just be at the shelter. But she will
also promote off-site events like adopt
a thons and go into schools to teach
kids about proper pet ownership.

death, the Reverend Martin Luther King
will have a memorial in his honor in
the nation's capital.

The effort to build the memorial

the works in Lynchburg ... but it's one
that will honor those who fought and
died on the Union side of the war.

Potter says Lynchburg was home to a
Union prisoner of war camp for four
years.

He believes it was located where
the E.C. Glass High School athletic
fields are today.

77-MILLION DOSES OF THE VACCINE HAVE
BEEN DISTRIBUTED...WITH MORE ON THE

doses of vaccine than we have ever
produced in the United States. We're
still projecting between 110 and 115

DOCTORS AROUND THE COUNTRY HAVE

of the top places to go for High School
Players who are in need of more
seasoning, inside and outside of the
Athletic Arena. The Post-graduate
Basketball team was in the Valley this
evening taking on Roanoke College's
J.V. Team.

Roanoke J.V. vs Hargrave It was a homecoming for Noah
States the former Lord Botetourt
standout who is headed to Furman next
season.

Some of States teammates will be
in Blacksburg next season. One of
those is Jeff Allen. The 6-8 Forward
gets the steal and the throw down as
Hargrave starts to open up a lead.

The Maroons tried to stay in this
one. Chris Herron the shortest guy on
the court gets the floater to go.

Points that were blocked earlier this
season slide for Brandon Pace. Because
when it comes to making the Kicks that
count for 3, the Hokies Place Kicker is
in a class all by himself in the

history of the Tech Program.

Pace has made all 14 of his field
goal attempts this year. And, dating
back to last year, he has made 19
straight which is a new school record.

The 19 in a row is the second
longest in the ACC's ever.

Pace gives much of the credit for
his success to his holder Nic Schmitt
and his snapper Scott King.

Food Embassy opened its doors to the
public today.

City council member Sherman Lea
joined restaurant employees for a
ribbon cutting this afternoon.

Abuelo's is the first business to
open in the 76 thousand square foot
addition known as the District at
Valley View.

Carrabba's Italian Grill will
follow early next month, and other
retailers are due to open there next
year.

two-hour concert D-V-D titled "The

sure soldiers in Iraq and Afghanistan
have a little something from home.

The boys and girls at Macy
McClaugherty Muh-claire-uh-tee
Elementary and Middle School have been

making Christmas cards with good wishes
and lots of thanks.

The cards along with care
packages prepared by veterans and
volunteers will be sent overseas soon
so soldiers will receive them in time
for the holidays.

Since 2003, the group has sent
more than 16-hundred care packages to
troops.
