Hours later ... members of the
bipartisan Iraq study group filed into
the White House for an hour and 15
minute talk with the President about
changing military strategy. President
Bush again steered clear of timelines.

President Bush:

"I believe that it's important though
for the people making suggestions to
recognize that the best military
options depend on the situation on

the ground."

"Here at the White House there seems to

be a change in tone concerning the war.
Ever since voters handed the Democrats
a sweeping victory in last week's
midterm elections the Bush
administration admitted there clearly
needs to be a fresh approach.

Sen. Carl Levin (D) Michigan:

"We cannot save the Iraqis from
themselves ..."

Senator Carl Levin, who's slated to
head up the Armed Services Committee,
called for specifics on troop
withdrawls. (08)

Sen. Carl Levin/ (D) Michigan:

"Most democrats share the view that we
should pressure the White House to
commence the phased redeployment of
troops from Iraq in 4-6 months."

He says a phased troop withdrawl with
some benchmarks would pressure the
Iraqi governement to step up to the
plate. The kind of pressure deliverd in
the form of a surprise visit to
Baghdad. The U-S General who commands

all the forces in the Middle East
dropped in on Prime Minister Nouri
al-Maliki. His message ... to reaffirm
President Bush's commitment to Iraq.

"Do we want to get out? Yeah, we want
to get out when we win."

That's not the kind of timeline for
withdrawl that the Democrats were
looking for.

was hit by her own car.

Police say it happened
Saturday night around 8:15.

81-year-old Merle Bean was
getting out of her car behind her home
on Academy Street when the car rolled
backwards and knocked her to the
ground.

She died at the scene.

GRAPHIC=Legal Scales Wythe County authorities say they

stopped a man this weekend who was

threatening to kill a police officer.

Investigators say Shields Noel
(NO-EL) Bise (BICE) of Rural Retreat
blocked a deputy with his car in the
sheriff's office parking early Sunday
morning.

The deputy says Bise told him he
wanted to killed a police officer
because he was mad at the war on
terrorism.

The man had apparently waited for
hours outside State Police division
headquarters in Wytheville with a
loaded 22 caliber rifle before heading
to the sheriff's office.

Bise was taken to an area
hospital.

Charges are pending.

enforcing a temporary injunction that
puts limits on the striking workers
outside the Goodyear plant.

The move comes after a brawl last
week between picketers and replacement

workers led to three arrests.

used to be home to a prisoner of war
camp during the Civil War .. and one
local man wants to honor those Union
soldiers who were held and died there.

which was in operation between 1861 and

Potter believes it was located where

win any of the ACC's player of the week
honors today, but they do have the
