addiction to heroin only to be fired
over a photograph on the internet.

Today the 28-year old
Meteorologist is still coming to terms
with the damage to his reputation and
how he lost his job at W-S-L-S after
all that's happened to him in the last
year.

(END SOT) Singleton invited us to his home in Old

Southwest Roanoke the day after Channel
10 terminated him- -agreeing to talk
about more than a year's worth of drug
addiction and the "My Space" picture
that cost him his job.

THIS PHOTOGRAPH, THAT WAS A PRANK. IT
WASN'T ANYTHING I POSED FOR. I WASN'T
UNDER THE INFLUENCE OF DRUGS OR ALCOHOL
AT THE TIME.

The photo popped up on "My Space"
Tuesday and began making the rounds on
line through e-mail accounts.

Though a version of the picture
appeared on at least one website, we've
chosen not to include it in this story.

Singleton says it was a photo a friend
of his took he was getting out of the
shower a couple of months ago.

You're wearing a shirt, shaving
something- -perhaps not your face-
-that's not somebody who just jumped
out of a shower and is surprised by a
digital cameraman.

YOU COULD SAY THAT. EVERYONE HAS THEIR
OWN SHOWER ROUTINE. YOU KNOW. WHATEVER
I'M DOING IN THE SHOWER IS MY OWN
BUSINESS.

Singleton survived a federal
investigation of drug use by his fellow

meteorologist and house-mate Marc
Lamarre.

Neither man was charged with a crime.
Two men who supplied them heroin have
gone to jail.

The prosecutor says Singleton's drug
habit escalated from Nubain to heroin,
reaching the point where Singleton was
using 17 bags of heroin a day.

He says he's still paying off the
credit card debt he piled up to be able
to pay for the drugs he was using a
year ago.

W-S-L-S said Singleton was fired over a
photo made public by e-mail. Keith

issues facing our schools, whether to
test students for drugs.

Two years ago Roanoke County quietly
dropped plans to try it, now another
school system is following suit.

but members point out it may revisit
the issue in the future.

Administrators were considering
testing middle and high school students
who take part in extra curricular
activities, possibly even those who
drive to school.

It was just last year that the school
board directed the Superintendent to
come up with a detailed plan on how to
implement random drug testing.

But after taking input from the
community and the Superintendent
announcing he was retiring, the school
board has decided to put the plan on
hold.

GRAPHIC=CRIME Roanoke County Police are looking

for a man who robbed a convenience
store early this morning.

VO-NAT The surveillance tape shows the

man entering 7-11 near the intersection
of Electric Road and Chaparral Drive.

He grabbed the clerk by the neck
and forced her to the registers.....and
stole an undisclosed amount of money
and some cigarettes before leaving the
store.

The clerk suffered a minor
injury, but did not require medical
treatment.

man, between 18 and 21, six foot-one to
six feet three. They say he has a

over and police say all the suspects
involved are in custody... but not
before a whole lot of chasing....

robbery....police showed up....the
suspects jumped in their car and took
off...later crashing in a
neighborhood.

But it's not over yet...The
suspects all made a break for it....two
of them ended up barricaded inside a

has broken off talks with Goodyear Tire
and Rubber because there wasn't enough
progress to stay at the bargaining
table.

Last Month Close to 15-thousand union members have
been on strike at Danville and 15 other
plants in the U.S. and Canada since
October 5th.

The walkout started after they turned
down company proposals for plant
closings and other concessions Goodyear

Noon Tuesday at the Bibleway Cathedral
in Danville.

Leroy Kovack has been missing for eight
years and his disappearance remains a
mystery to police and his family.

VO-NAT Investigators say 24 year-old

Kovack was last seen in Blacksburg on
Friday, September 18-th, 1998.

*CG locator Blacksburg His friends told police he was goint to File West Virginia for a college football :06 (quick) game.

But he never made it....and five
days later...his red and black 1992 Geo
Tracker was found in Fayette County,
West Virginia.

*CG locator Fayette Co., WV West Virginia State Police found no September 1998 signs of foul play or struggle.
:18 Suicide was considered and ruled
out.

No witnesses came forward to
troopers, and all of their searches and
interviews turned up nothing.

Meanwhile...Blacksburg Police did

not give up, they too did interviews,
canvassed neighborhoods, but again,
nothing.

Family members say it's like he
fell off the face of the earth.

Center towers in New York is getting
its start in Lynchburg.

That's where the Banker Steel
Company is forging some of the first
steel beams for the Freedom Tower
project that will soon be under
construction at Ground Zero.

Banker Steel is doing that in the
same building where the orginial steel
beams used for the Trade Center
construction in the early 1970s were
built.

Local residents will have a chance
to see and to sign the beams before

they are shipped up to New York City in
early December.

Seigel Center in Richmond with hopes of

keep their unbeaten season going as
