twister hit this tiny riverside
community at dawn Thursday. it struck

in an area that had no tornado warning
sirens.

While teams assess damage and
danger�many are still being kept from

their homes. At least 100 homeless
residents are now in shelters,

but the Governor says he�s planning to
move them to motels.

The tornado was part of a wave of
powerful , fast moving storms that

battered Louisiana, Mississippi and
Alabama.. before moving up the east

coast.

could take years for residents

Two people were rescued this morning
after their car got stuck in high water
in Marlboro, Maryland.

Authorities say the car was submerged
in three to four feet of water.

The two occupants were able to get on
top of the car's roof, where they
waited for rescuers.

The pair reportedly didn't suffer any
injuries.

More than three inches of rain fell
across Maryland yesterday in just two
hours--

morning, grabbed the clerk by the neck,
and forced her to open the cash
register.

stabbed following an argument.

Giles County.

The sheriff said two friends had
been drinking when they got into a
fight.

That's when the sheriff said
Thomas Combs and William Pyles stabbed
one another with the same knife.

Pyles was cut under his right
arm, and Combs was stabbed in the
chest.

He was flown to Roanoke Memorial
Hospital as a precautionary measure.

Pyles was charged with malicious
wounding.

Charges are pending against
Combs.

Ramada Inn to hear why the clinic is a
bad idea.

Franklin Co. claimed the life of a
woman from Hardy. State Police says 53
year old Suzanne Hanks was traveling on
route 609 when she ran off the left

was cut down this morning in Vinton.

Crews trucked it to its new
home at Wachovia Plaza where it's being
put up today.

The tree will be lit in a
city-sponsored ceremony on December

Without the trees, there could be
no festival. That's where local
Lynchburg businesses step up to the
plate.

They're the ones who donate and
decorate them. Now the trees are up
for silent auction... and these aren't
the ordinary iconic holiday symbols.

Amazement Square's tree is
Egyptian themed, inspired by its new
exhibit. BB&T decorated a money tree,
with... real money as ornaments.

Other trees included one
for-and-from Jimmy Buffet fans complete
with parrot lights and ornaments and
there's a tree for Wahoo fans, decked
out in hand-made UVA decorations.

A pink-feathered princess tree,
perfect for a little girl or a woman

young-at-heart and a tree covered with
Christmas ornament hand-painted by
local artist, Amy Calabra Davis of
Light of Mine Designs are among the
many other trees on display and open
for auction at the Festival of Trees.

The money raised from the
week-long festival goes a long way in
advancing Amazement Square's education
efforts.

In addition to the tree auction,
there was a holiday tea party with over
250 in attendance.

Saturday morning features
Breakfast with Santa where kids can eat
and have their picture taken with Jolly
Ol' Saint Nick.

And the festival wraps up Sunday
evening with a Gala.
