At around 5:30 this evening,
Roanoke Fire and E-M-S responded to
"Davidsons" on Jefferson Street.

Fire officials say there was a
small explosion in the electrical
system.

There wasn't a fire...but lots of
smoke...and that's what caused some
problems.

The owner says there is
50-thousand dollars in damage.

He also says he lost about
400-thousand dollars in merchandise.

for clues after a man was found dead in
home.

138essB Officers were called to an
apartment complex on the 300 block of
Cleveland Street around 6:30 last
night.

When they arrived they discovered
25-year-old, Lamont Jermaine Bennett
had been shot.

Rescue crews tried to revive
Bennett, but were unsuccessful.

for an armed robber who took a woman
and a car full of kids hostage last
night.

Member One Credit Union on Bypass Road.

According to police, the man
walked up to the woman's car when she
was using the A-T-M, pointed a gun and
demanded money - and he didn't stop
there.

Instead of running off, the
robber jumped in the woman's car and
ordered her to drive to South East
Roanoke.

Once they got there, he ran off.

behind bars.

He's accused of rape.

Police say late Thursday night, a
Roanoke College sophomore called them
saying she had been raped at the Moyer
Sports complex.

arrested and charged Johnathan Wesley
Webb of Salem with abduction, intent to
defile, rape, sodomy, burglary, and
grand larceny.

He's being held in the Roanoke

reporting the first bear attack in at
least the last 8 years - and amazingly
the victim is alive.

Thurman Hensely was out hunting
with two of his friends yesterday when
they came up on a bear they thought was

dead.

That's when the 600 pound animal
made his move attacking Hensely.

The other two hunters were
eventually able to kill the bear.

Hensley was flown to U-V-A
Medical Center in Charlottesville.

He's listed in fair condition.
