He says one of the common
mistakes people make is being in a too
much of a hurry.

closely observe their surroundings, be

other local law enforcement plan to be
out strictly enforcing their "click it
or ticket" message starting this
Wednesday.
The state police also plan to
increase their presence by 25 percent
on the highway over the Thanksgiving
holiday season.

homicide in Danville.

138essB Officers were called to an
apartment complex on the 300 block of
Cleveland Street at about 6:30 last
night.
They found 25-year old, Lamont
Jermaine Bennett had been shot.
Rescue crews tried to revive
Bennett, but were unsuccessful.
He was pronounced dead at the
scene.

an armed robber who took a woman and a
car full of kids hostage last night --

According to police, the man
walked up to the woman's car when she
was using the A-T-M, pointed a gun and
demanded money - and he didn't stop
there.
Instead of running off the robber
jumped in the woman's car and ordered
her to drive to South East Roanoke.

19-year-old man on multiple
charges...including rape.
Police say late Thursday night, a
Roanoke College sophomore called them
and said she had been raped at the
Moyer Sports complex.

arrested and charged Johnathan Wesley
Webb of Salem with abduction, intent to
defile, rape, sodomy, burglary, and
grand larceny.
He's being held in the Roanoke
County-Salem Jail without bond.

Virginia hunters.
One of them actually became the
hunted - his attacker...a 600 pound
black bear.
Two other hunters in the area
were eventually able to kill the bear
but not before it mauled Thurman
Hensely.
Hensley is in fair condition at
U-V-A Medical Center in
Charlottesville.
Authorities say this is the first
bear attack in Virginia in at
least the past eight years.

Virginia native Ruth Brown has died.

VO-NAT Brown was born in Portsmouth.
She shot to the top of the charts
in the 1950's with songs like
"Teardrops in My Eyes" and "Mama He
Treats Your Daughter Mean."
In addition to winning a Grammy
she also dabbled in acting and won a
Tony for her work.
Brown died after suffering from a
stroke and heart attack.
She was 78-years-old.
