GRAPHIC=Honoring Hero Two years ago an Alleghany County

family lost their son in the Iraq War,
only to face another battle after his
death.

Soon after Ryan Howard died while
serving in Operation Iraqi Freedom, his
family went to work to make sure his
sacrifice would last forever.

They got involved with the
Statues of Servicmen Campaign which is
a nationwide effort to build a bronze
bust of every U-S Servicemen killed in
Iraq.

The family believes they were
scammed by that project

The leader of the campaign says
the campaign is up and running, however
donations dried up after Hurricane
Katrina which means the Howard family
never got their memorial.

So, the family once again went to
work raising money to build their own
statue.

Howard's life comes after a long
journey where the family says they were

Howard.

non-profit responsible for building
this statue.

The organization wants to build a
statue of every serviceman and woman
killed in Iraq and Afghanistan.

Now Hollani, the bronze bust of
Ryan Howard is actually the first
statue to be completed nationwide by
this organization.

It is important to point out that
the head of the Statues of Servicemen

GRAPHIC=Fatal Accident A Roanoke woman is dead after an

early morning accident on Interstate
81.

The accident happened just after
four A-M on southbound 81 near mile
marker 126.

Police say 20-year-old Stephanie
Anne Kingrea's Honda Accord rear-ended
the back of a tractor trailer and her
car ran up under the trailor.

She was pronounced dead at the
scene.

Police have confirmed the victim
was wearing a seatbelt and that alcohol
did not appear to be a factor.

Route 220 this morning shutting down
part of the road for nearly an hour.

Only one car was involved.

Authorities say the driver

slammed into the divider some time
after midnight.

Both lanes had to be closed off
until it was cleaned up.

The driver was sent to the

injuries.

He's been charged with reckless
driving and possession of marijuana.

a shooting on Main Street.

North Main after getting reports about
shots being fired in that area.

Police found a 15-year old boy
who had been shot.

The teenager was taken to
Danville Regional Medical Center.

trying to find out who's behind a
weekend shooting.

Crews were called out to the 100
block of East Cadbury around 3:30 this
morning.

When they got there, they found a
woman - she had been shot twice in the
chest.

Right now she's in stable
condition at Lynchburg General.

Police have not tracked down the
gunman.

operating after December 21st.

He told News 7 the University tried
to keep these services open with
private donations but it wasn't enough.
