teen.

following a fatal shooting at Roanoke's
Zmart is now facing an additional
charge.

Nov. 9 39- year- old Mendy Phelps was
taken into custody on November 9th
after the car she was driving crashed
near the intersection of 8th Street
and Hanover Avenue.

Police say the man who was riding
with her, 38- year- old Reginald
Killingsworth, shot and killed Z-mart
owner, Zaid Almajali (ZAYD AHL- muh-
JAH- lee) , during an attempted robbery
minutes earlier.

Phelps was accused of eluding
police. Authorities have added a charge
of attempted robbery, principle in the
second degree.

On the outside, the parking lot has
been repaved, new lights have been put
up, and the exterior of the mall has

electrical fire Saturday.

It didn't cause any structural
damage to the retail floor.. but the
store lost more than 250 thousand

a home and the town of Vinton may be on
the hook to help pay for it.

October Fire wiped out the Beaman home
off of Toddsburry Drive in October.

As crews battled the fire, water
barely came out of a nearby hydrant.

Now the family's insurance
company has contacted the town's
insurance carrier to help with a

set for November 28th at seven o'clock
in the William Byrd Middle School - to
address residents concerns about the

water pressure in that area.

in Alabama.

yesterday's crash.

The girl was on the bus that fell
30 feet off of an interstate overpass.

Investigators are still trying to
figure out how the bus went off the

basketball team opened up its season
tonight at home at the Bast Center
against the Ferrum College Panthers who
were already one and one on the season.

measuring stick to see how it stacked
up against Susan Dunagan's team.

The two teams would keep it close
throughout. With a minute 20 left in
regulation, Roanoke's Jaleesa Osborne
dishes to Cave Spring product Caitlyn
Long, and the freshman will knock down
the three. We're at 67-all. Long had a
game high 19.

The game went to overtime tied at
70. In the extra period Quanita
Bennett will grab the errant Roanoke

pass and outrun all the defender to the
other end and bank in the layup to put
Ferrum on top by a duece.

Roanoke would get the lead back
one more time as Brittany Johnson gets
the rock low in the paint, and she will
turn and hit the jumper to give the
Maroons a one point advantage. *CG final Ferrum
84 But Ferrum would come right back. Roanoke Bennett again - this time she runs the 82 baseline - stop and bank in two of her Final In Overtime team high 17.

Ferrum wins it 84-to-82 in
overtime.

Altman has died.

Altman died last night at a Los Angeles
hospital.

He's best known for his movies
"Nashville", "The Player" and
"Mash"....which spawned a hit
television series.

In March, Altman accepted an
Honorary Lifetime Achievement
Oscar....and he admitted he had
undergone a heart transplant eleven
years ago.

The cause of death has not been
released...

Altman was 81 years old.

are now making plans for the
Countryside property in the city, say a
golf course will remain the centerpiece
of the project.

And they've hired a leading golf
course architect to design the links.

City Council has granted an extension
until March, to give the development
team more time to complete its plans.

Elements of the mixed use
development would include an 18-hole
executive golf course with par four and

quits.

Charles Fisher has worked at the school

Most recently as a research
chemist, but he still manages to teach
a class every now and then.

This afternoon Fisher's
co-workers and students threw him a
birthday party - he hit the centennial
mark on Monday.

The Professor insists after today
he's retiring, but plans to make an
occasional visit.

speeches, and the shaking of hands....a
race for mayor in a New Mexico town has

nothing to do with voters.....

VO-NAT instead it was settled the old

fashioned way.

At high Noon, Howard Calkins and
Robert Stearley drew cards, and whoever
drew the higher card won the race for
Mayor of Edgewood.....sounds pretty
unbelievable...but that's the law.

Two years ago, the men ran for
Mayor and after many debates the courts
decided the race ended in a
tie.....Legally the only way to break
that tie was with a game of chance.
