down tonight after someone found white
powder in a piece of their mail.

He said a woman opened up what
she thought was junk mail and found the
powdery substance.

The post master was alerted and
the building went on lock down
immediately.

State Police responded and turned
the evidence over to the postal
inspector.

Preliminary results did NOT test
positive for any poisons.

murder of a Roanoke woman.

October 2006 In October, the body of 41 year
old Karen Bethany Elkins was found in
the Roanoke River after a passerby in
Wasena Park noticed her in the water.

Today, 29 year old Aaron Paul
Gray was arrested and charged with
murder.

Elkins died.

School tomorrow, after a fire forced an
evacuation today.

Middle School just before two o'clock
this afternoon after smoke started to
pour out of a girls' bathroom.

the fire was confined to the bathroom,

death of a Pittsylvania County
sheriff's deputy and his wife.

deputy Tim Jones died of multiple
gunshot wounds.

His wife, Pamela Jones, died
of a single gunshot wound. Her injury

their home on Kentuck Road yesterday.

Officers went to the house
after deputy Jones didn't show up for

work.

head-on collision in Franklin County
this weekend.

VO-NAT The family of 39-year-old Greg

Neil says they pulled him off life
support yesterday night.

They say his daughter,
17-year-old Tiffany Wright was driving
the Toyota Camry that was hit head on
Sunday night.

She's said to be in the hospital
with a broken neck.

Another passenger Teresa Neil -
Greg's ex wife is also in the hospital
listed in critical condition.

15-year-old Joel Nichols, a
friend of the family, died the night of
the crash.

this one on Interstate 81 in Botetourt
county this afternoon- police say the
victim was not wearing a seat belt.

Pathfinder went off the road near the
Troutville exit in Botetourt County,
hit an embankment and rolled over.

The 60-year-old driver from
Tennessee was killed.

The problem was no one could say for
sure who the changed the name, when, or
even why.

But after a week of finger pointing

said it should be a Christmas tree.

in Montgomery County for William
Morva's robbery trial.

Morva was in jail on robbery
charges in August when police say he
escaped from custody, went on the run
and killed two officers.

Morva's attorney asked the gudge
to move the trial out of the county,
claiming the high profile media
coverage of the shootings had tainted
the jury pool.

The Judge agreed to look over
recent stories on TV and in the paper,
but said he would still try to seat a
jury for the trial in March.

former fugitive at the center of the
largest manhunt in New York's history.

That's because Ralph "Bucky"
Phillips pleaded guilty today to
killing one trooper and wounding two
others.

Two of the troopers were shot in
an ambush in August.

One died three days later, the
other was hospitalized until last week.

Another trooper was wounded
during a traffic stop in June.

Phillips eluded capture for five
months, after using an industrial can
opener to cut a hole through the
ceiling of a Buffalo area jail.

He surrendered to police in early
September after being cornered in a
field in northwestern Pennsylvania.

student has been charged with reckless
endangerment and reckless driving after
leading officers on a high speed chase.

Authorities say an eleven year
old driving a truck led police on an
hour long police chase with speeds
toping 80 miles and hour at times.

Two spike strips were used during
the pursuit....however the boy
continued for eight miles with all four
tires blown out.

The chase finally came to an end
when the boy crashed the truck.

No one was injured during this
incident.

downtown store. Davidson's re-opened
today with all new merchandise.

The store's owner and employees
have been scrambling to get new
sweaters, shirts, suits and more..

Today boxes of new merchandise were

morning the doors opened for business.

An electrical explosion in the
basement the Saturday before last
caused smoke damage and forced the

H-I-V AIDS curriculum.

Using a variety of animated games
and scenarios, it's meant to use day to
day situations students can relate to

Adam Haluska makes a strong drive to

But the Hokies and in particular
Jamon Gordon were pretty impressive.

Gordon led the Hokies with

Virginia went back on top.

But UVA went ice cold and didn't
score the final five and half minutes

Johnson was named the ACC's player of
the year tonight.

Johnson had 59 catches for 899
yards and a school-record 13

touchdowns this year. Johnson got 66
out of possible 80 votes cast by

Media Association. He was also named
the league's offensive player of the
year.
