down tonight after someone found white
powder in a piece of their mail.

He said a woman opened up what
she thought was junk mail and found the
powdery substance.

The post master was alerted and
the building went on lock down
immediately.

State Police responded and turned

inspector.

positive for any poisons.

murder of a Roanoke woman.

old Karen Bethany Elkins was found in
the Roanoke River by a passerby in
Wasena Park.

tonight in the death of a Pittsylvania
County sheriff's deputy and his wife.

His wife, Pamela Jones,
died of a single gunshot wound.

Her injury appears to be self

after deputy Jones didn't show up for
work.

support yesterday evening.

They say his daughter,
17-year-old Tiffany Wright was driving
the Toyota Camry that was hit head on

Another passenger Teresa Neil -
Greg's ex wife is also in the hospital
in critical condition.

15-year-old Joel Nichols, a
friend of the family, died the night of
the crash.

evacuation this afternoon.

Middle School just before two o'clock

today after smoke started to pour out
of a girls' bathroom.

An incident commander says while
the fire was confined to the bathroom,
smoke was a problem and large fans were

started after someone stuffed paper
into the toilet in a girls' bathroom
-and lit it.

sidestepped the issue of civil unions
by handing a custody case to Vermont.

residents traveled to Vermont for a
civil union.

Janet Jenkins and Lisa Miller --
now separated, have been in and out of
court fighting for the custody of their
daughter.

Lisa is the biological mother --
and in Virginia -- where same-sex
marriage is prohibited -- she was the
sole legal parent and did not have to
grant Jenkins visitation rights.

In August, the Vermont supreme
court said that the state's family
court would have jurisdiction over the
case. Yesterday-- a Virginia
appeals court agreed.

But it doesn't end there--Lisa
says she is likely to appeal the case
to the Virginia supreme court.

Mor's parents say their daughter was
beautiful but after a car accident last
year was very self concious of her
nose.

As a gift, her parents paid a

it.

Mor's mom went with her that day and
only left for a few minutes to grab a

cup of coffee....when she returned, the
paramedics were on the scene.

life while trapped inside the jaws of
an alligator.

happened...Four sheriff's deputies
risked their lives by wrestling the
alligator and freeing the man.

He was taken to a local hospital
where he's in critical condition.
Investigators say he has a broken arm,
amputated arm and major trauma to one
leg.

None of the deputies were hurt in
the struggle.
