GRAPHIC=FFE Welcome everyone to Friday

Football Extra. We have finally
reached the Final Four weekend for the
2006 high school football season and it
looks like the weather on Saturday will
be absolutely perfect.

As always thanks for joining us
tonight here on Your Hometown Station.
All of the games this week and next
will be played on Saturday afternoon.

And even with the unexpected loss
of Gretna and William Campbell last
week - six teams from the immediate
Friday Football Extra coverage area are
still in the hunt for state titles.

We'll hear from each school on
tonight's program.

GRAPHIC=AMHERST/BASSETT Our first stop this evening is Amherst

County. The Lancers come into their
Group Two "A" Division 4 State
Semi-Final contest against Bassett on a
10 game winning streak, but it might as
well be 9 straight and then a "Big ole
Circle" around the one last week
against Salem.

Now the challenge for Scott Abell
is to get his team to come back down to

earth and continue on what the folks in
Amherst hope is the road to a State
Championship.

Grant Kittelson caught up with
Amherst somewhere on Cloud 9.

OQ=Friday Football Extra. << Amherst comes into their State
(END SOT) Semi-Final game against Bassett with an

11 and 1 record. But for this team
they look at their record as just 2 and
oh.

(ABELL BITE: 22:42:10)

The Lancers 4 point win over
Salem Last Friday that got them to this
game put their season point total over
5-hundred. There Defense has allowed

under 80 points over their 12 games.
The close game against the Spartans was
something new for Amherst.

(ABELL BITE:22:39:00)

Amherst has had success getting
to the playoffs, but winning a Regional
Championship had escaped their grasp
until this year.

(ABELL BITE:22:41:19)

The Next Challenge is Bassett

(ABELL BITE:22:39:45)

Amherst is looking for their
first trip to the State Title game
since 1995 when they won the Division 4
Title. In Amherst County, Grant

August 5th of 2002.

Back then the challenge wasn't
making it to the playoffs, but rather
just not getting anyone injured in
still open irrigation system or on the
thousands of rocks that littered the
field.

That eclectic group of first year
players laid the foundation for success
and now this year's Titans hope to
reach the promised land.

But to get to the promised land
they must first make it past Richlands.

JR EDWARDS

And there's plenty on which to

focus this week.

The Blue Tornadoes will play
their first ever playoff game in the
Roanoke Valley with a team that is
12-and-0. In those games - Richlands
has outscored the opposition 580 to 90
- and 40 of those were given up in the
playoffs.

JR EDWARDS

On paper the game may look a
mismatch - but consider the following -
Hidden Valley has by far played the
tougher schedule this season - as
Richlands has three wins over Group A
schools.

Plus, the Titans defense hasn't
given up a single points in the
playoffs.
