investigating a shooting.

Shortly after eight last night,
officers responded to the area of West
James Street and Abbott Street.

There, they found a man suffering
from a gunshot wound to his face.

He was taken to Danville Regional
Medical Center.

Officials say they are searching
for a black male wearing dark clothing.

grim discovery yesterday at the home of
an animal breeder in the Ferrum area.

They found about 50 animals,
including ten dead dogs and a cat.

Some of the animals were penned
in kennels outside.

But animal control officers say
at least some of the dead animals were
INSIDE the living quarters of the
house.

problem in Blacksburg and town leaders
are working to do something about it.

Virginia Tech students to study the
problem and offer some solutions.

The students found too many
pedestrians are being hit on campus and
also in the downtown region..

So they came up with detailed
ideas for an education campaign which

clearing around power lines near
Carvins Cove.

Saws- attached to a cable hanging
from the helicopter - cut tree limbs

shut down its rooftop helipad to add
five new floors.

That meant, the existing pad was
moved more than half a mile down the
road to a separate building.

Anytime a trauma patient was
brought in, it would take an ambulance

Extra time the hospital hopes to
cut, now that everything's in one
place.

with a new building.

The school broke ground yesterday
on the Douglas and Beatrice Covington
Fine and Performing Arts Center.

It's a more than 22-million
dollar project that will house the R-U
Art Museum, a 350-seat recital hall.

The building is named for the
University's fifth president and his
late wife.

The project was paid for by
voters with the 2002 bond referendum.

Construction will start
immediately and the facility is
expected to open in the Fall of 2008.

into a drug-find in Wythe County.

Monday afternoon, a deputy pulled
over 33-year-old Dantee DAHN-TAY Keys
for speeding on Interstate-77.

The deputy reportedly found a
loaded gun in the car and several
different drugs including 22-thousand
dollars worth of Oxycontin.

Investigators say Keys is from

Greensboro, North Carolina and gave
them a fake name.

A 2002 law allows payday lenders
to charge more than 700- percent
interest on short term loans.

Delegate John O'Bannon is leading
the fight to cap payday lenders at 36-
percent, but industry insiders say that
would put them out of business.

Payday lenders say customers only
rack up high interest when they don't
pay their loans back on time.
