THE SIMPLE LIGHTBULB -- WHAT A BRIGHT
IDEA. BUT ..WAS.. IT EDISON'S?

HISTORIANS MAY ARGUE - BUT ONE THING'S
FOR CERTAIN.. HE WOULD COME TO

OWN IT -- LEAVING ALL OF HIS
COMPETITORS IN THE DARK.

SOT - TOM LAMB/CHRISTIE'S AUCTION HOUSE

WHOEVER MADE THE LIGHTBULB IN 1890 WAS
GONNA SWEEP AMERICA.

Edison wasn't dim.

To pull the switch on others stealing
"his" idea, he took 'em to

court...and this very box provided all
the enlightening evidence he

needed.

Inside it, be brought HIS bulbs...along
with the 'other guys' models.

His worked...AND he proved THEIRS were

copies.

Case dismissed...Edison's patent,
upheld. Turn out the lights, party's

over.

SOT TOM LAMB

HE WAS THE MAN WHO HAD THE GUTS AND THE
BACKING AND THE MONEY TO MAKE IT

A COMMERCIAL PRODUCT.

The set went missing until four years
ago, when it turned up in a dusty

attic in America.

It'll be auctioned off in London next
week, if you're interested...and

you've got a spare HALF A MILLION
bucks.

They'll probably gift wrap it for you,
too.

And when you DO flip the switch this
season -- go ahead and THANK

Tom.... After all - he won that
privilege fair and square - in

Franklin Co. vs. Hidden Valley The Titans just got a couple of :00 their players back off of the football
team after the Titans season came to
close in the state semi-finals last
Saturday.

While Franklin County came in
with plenty of confidence after beating
state champ Martinsville on Wednesday
night.

Tech coach Seth Greenberg was in
the house and he would see the Titans

jump out to big first quarter lead.
Off the miss - Matt Partsch gets to the
rack for the tip-in as Hidden Valley
leads by 8.

But before the shirtless letters
could get all lined up, the Eagles got
defensive. Ray Keys takes away Ben
Boggs' crossover at midcourt, hits
ahead and then flies to the basket to
complete the Eagles' give and go.

The Titans' bench gave coach
Chris Morris some solid minutes. Rob
Peterson goes baseline and spots Will
Anderson - who gets the friendly bounce
on the three pointer as the Titans stay
on top. *CG final Franklin Co.
64 The Eagles went on top just Hidden Valley before the halftime break. As Mark 71 Kent scores in the post. But Hidden
Valley toughs it out and beats the
Eagles 71-to-64.

players, coaches and university

supporters.

Many of the folks on the
ill fated flight had ties to our area,

OQ=News 7 Sports." < (END SOT) Airlines DC-9 carrying the Marshall

football team home from a game at East
Carolina, crashed on approach in
Huntington, killing everyone on board.
One of the victims was assistant coach
Frank Loria, a Virginia Tech grad, who
helped the Hokies reach the 1966
Liberty Bowl. A consensus All American
at DB in 1967, he later became the
defensive backs coach in Huntington.
This month's release of the movie about
the Thundering Herd is stirring some
mixed emotions in his former teammate
and roommate Frank Beamer.

FRANK BEAMER/VIRGINIA TECH HEAD COACH:

The film will hit home for Wake Forest
Head Coach Jim Grobe as well. Grobe
and his wife are both Huntington
natives who knew several folks on the
plane, including team doctor Ray
Hagley, or Uncle Ray, who was more like
a surrogate father to Grobe.

JIM GROBE/WAKE FOREST HEAD COACH:

Matthew McConaughey plays Jack Lengyel,
the head coach in charge of rebuilding
the football team, while Matthew Fox is

Red Dawson, his assistant. Shooting
begain in Huntington this past April
and wrapped up late this summer in
Atlanta.

MATTHEW MCCONAUGHEY/PLAYS JACK LENGYEL:

In one other local note, former Radford
University President the late Donald
Dedmon, was the acting president at
Marshall at the time of the crash.

TRAVIS: Coming up next week on News 7,
we'll take a closer look at the Ferrum
connection to the crash. 7 of the
victims were former Panthers who
transferred to Marshall after winning a
junior college national championship
under Hank Norton. Travis Wells, News
