GRAPHIC=Plane Crash Federal investigators have
issued their first report on a deadly
plane crash in Southside, but it
doesn't point to any clear cause.

October James Michael Williams was
killed October 22nd when his
amateur-built plane crashed near the
Halifax-Pittsylvania County line.
Witnesses told inspectors
Williams was trying to land at an
ultra-light field, when the plane
appeared to be blown offf course and
crashed in a wooded area.
The wreckage was found two days
later.
The National Transportation
Safety Board says Williams did have a
private pilot certificate, and reported
300 hours of flight time.
The weather at the time of the
crash included a low ceiling with fog
and five- mile visibilty.

Sixteen construction workers are
hurt after a slab of concrete gave way
at a building under construction in
Arlington this morning.
A fire chief says three of the
injured were in critical condition, and
four were in serious condition.
It happened on the 24th floor of
a building under construction in
Rosslyn, just across the Potomac River
from Washington.
The fire chief says workers were
pouring concrete when a section about
60-feet by 30-feet collapsed.
About 200 workers were in the
building at the time of the collapse.

It's hard to get revved up when it's
this cold but that didn't stop hundreds
from lining the streets of Pulaski for
the annual Christmas parade.
Even so, it wasn't easy.

topic at this year's parade but last
year it was the participation of the Ku
Klux Klan that had everyone talking.

organizers were just taken by surprise.

INQ=It did cause LEA WOLFE/PARADE CHAIRWOMAN: IT DID
CAUSE A LOT OF PROBLEMS, ESPECIALLY
AFTER THE PARADE. I WASN'T EVEN AWARE
UNTIL THE NEXT DAY WHEN ONE OF THE NEWS
STATIONS CALLED ME AND TOLD ME IT
HAPPENED.

OQ=ME TO HAPPEN That's because according to
organizers the group displayed the Klan
flag half way through the parade.
To prevent future incidents,
organizers made a number of changes.
This year, everyone needed to
preregister.
Each entry was inspected right before
the beginning of the parade and only
one group could display flags.

The Klan did not show up for this
year's parade and many residents
believe it was just an isolated
incident.
The focus on this night was just
trying to stay warm.
