County....Dozens of firefighters are
still trying to get a brush fire under
control...

The fire on Peavine Mountain in the
George Washington National Forest was
first reported around 11 Sunday night.

Three separate fires have been
burning in the area between Pera and
Hercules Roads.

And crews estimate more than five
hundred acres have been burned so far.

More than fifty firefighters have
spent the past 24 hours trying to get
the fire contained.

It's in a remote section of the
mountains, so fortunately no homes are
in danger.

Valerie Crouse has avoided a prison
term... after having admitted
misappropriating Postal Service funds.

The 58-year old defendant retired
from the Postal Service... long before
she was indicted in April.

Crouse admitted taking funds that

old girl drowned Sunday after
attempting to save her friend from an
icy pond.

boy was attempting to retrieve
something on the ice when he fell into
the pond.

The girl tried to rescue
him...while a third child went to get
help.

An emergency worker and a
neighbor pulled the boy out of the
pond.

He is reportedly in critical
condition.

The girl was recovered from the
pond and was pronounced dead at the
hospital.

underway in Oregon.

Hood to look for three missing
climbers.

One was able to call his son on
his cell phone yesterday to say he was
stranded in a snow cave.

gone back down to find help.

There's been no contact
since....and no sign of the other two
climbers.

post-mortem report...it was the kidney
condition she had been battling for
years.

receive the Congressional Gold Medal
Award for logging more than 800 hours
in public service, personal
development, physical fitness and
outdoor exploration.

The two and a half year pursuit
allowed Rogers to travel, but the young

Rogers will receive the award
next spring in Washington.

The Congressional Award is open
to all 14 to 23 year-olds who are able

boy is earning high praise after saving
the life of his new puppy.

leash when a red tailed hawk grabbed a
hold of him and tried to fly away.

His young owner was at the other
end of the leash and fought to save his
five month old puppy.

Dimmy survived the attack with

together, he'll be keeping his eyes on
the sky.
