Wildfire has scorched hundreds of
acres of national forest in Amherst
County. Firefighters are still trying
to contain it.

The fire near Peavine Mountain was
reported around 11 Sunday night.

Authorities say three separate
fires have burned more than 300 acres
in the area between Pera Road and
Hercules Road ... not far from the Blue
Ridge Parkway.

More than fifty firefighters have
been called in to help ... they've
spent the day digging containment lines
and setting back fires- and more help
is on the way.

The fire is in a remote section of
the George Washington National Forest,
and officials say while some roads have
been closed, no homes are in danger.

term... after having admitted
misappropriating Postal Service funds.

Crouse admitted taking funds

Roger Lee Grubb the second, of
Wytheville was driving on Aker Road in
the Fairview section of the county when

police on a wild chase down Interstate
81 today.

Hollins exit. Troopers couldn't stop
him for 30 miles, until they deployed

Shown here in video taken just weeks
before her death - the tiger, who at
her peak weighed 330-pounds was down to
just over 200 pounds.

For the last several years, Ruby had
battled arthritis in her left shoulder
and a kidney condition. According to a
post-mortem doctor's report- it's that
condition which lead to Ruby's
declining health.

thoughts are turning to how the zoo can
remember the BIG cat who called it home
for so long.

While, zoo officials say they can never
replace Ruby, a tiger exhibit is in the
zoo's future.

will receive the Congressional Gold
Medal Award for logging more than 800
hours in public service, personal
development, physical fitness and
outdoor exploration.

He decided to take on the project
in June, 2003.

The two and a half year pursuit
allowed Rogers to travel, but he says
his greatest reward came in
volunteering his time.

high school's Norm Lineburg is a breath
of fresh air and then some.

Lineburg, who retired at the end
of the just completed season has
coached more game than any coach in
Virginia High school league history in
his 47 years as a head coach. His
teams won 315 games in that span - but
never did he coach up the importance of

winning above sportsmanship and respect
for your fellow man.

The Southwest Virginia Officials
association picked Radford over 40
other schools for this year's honor.

The Civitan Club also rewarded Radford
senior tailback and Linebacker Nathan
Viers with the annual Civitan
Scholarship.

Rebounds in 2 games this past week.
Frazee hits the Trifecta, winning the
award for the 3rd time this season

broke his wrist while playing golf last
Friday in Florida at a charity event.

Earlier today some of his team
members told the Associated Press that
Johnson was horsing around and riding
