around a city law that prohibits them
from raising money on the streets.

intersections raising money for the
Muscular Dystrophy Association through
its "Fill the Boot" campaign.

But earlier this year, Lynchburg
banned that type of fundraising out of

30-thousand dollars the year before to
just three thousand this year.

They plan to ask the city for an

acres, but firefighters have a massive
wildfire in Amherst county about ninety
percent contained tonight.

The fire on Peavine Mountain was
first reported around 11 o'clock Sunday
night.

It spread across an area near the

Blue Ridge Parkway, between Pera and
Hercules Roads.

More than 100 people were on the
lines, trying to get it under control.

Authorities say the fire was
started by people, but its cause is
under investigation.

Forrest and Roger Hurt woke to sounds
of gunfire outside their home in the
19-hundred block of Hanover Avenue.

When they went to investigate-
they found windows shot out, holes in
the walls and their vehicles badly
damaged.


In all, 18-shots sprayed the area
- two of the bullets went into the
bedroom wall where Forrest's
16-year-old daughter was sleeping.

game at East Carolina crashed 42
hundred feet shy of the runaway at the
Tri State airport on November 14th of
1970 - Huntington, West Virginia was
changed forever.

Donnie Brown was Ferrum's student
body president in 1965 and he has

remained one of the college's most
vocal suppoters to this day. He and so
many others at Ferrum remember the day
the plane went down with seven former
Ferrum Junior College players on board,
along with a Marshall head coach who
got his start with the Panthers.

The seven players were all
teammates of Horace Green - the captain
of the 1968 national title team and the
MVP of the Junior College Championship
game - known at the time as the Shrine
Bowl. He didn't need a movie to help
him remember the friends he lost in
that crash.
