GRAPHIC=WILDFIRE Crews are trying to contain the

fire that has already scorched hundreds
of acres in Amherst County.

The fire near Peavine Mountain was
reported around 11 Sunday night.

Authorities say three separate
fires have burned more than 500 acres
in the area between Pera Road and
Hercules Road ... not far from the Blue
Ridge Parkway.

More than fifty firefighters have
been called in to help ... they spent
yesterday digging containment lines and
setting back fires- and more help is on
the way.

The fire is in a remote section of
the George Washington National Forest,
and officials say while some roads have
been closed, no homes are in danger.

hosted a demonstration to show how
quickly trees can ignite if safety tips
are not followed.

One way to avoid a fire is to
choose a fresh tree and keeping it
watered.

Using proper lighting and keeping
the tree at least three feet from a
heating unit are two more important
steps.

Chief Jack Jones says the danger
of a Christmas tree fire lies in the
housekeeping.

Folks need to make sure to take

care of the environment around the
tree.

trying to get a brush fire under
control in Amherst County.

George Washington National Forest was
first reported around 11 Sunday night.

Three separate fires have been
burning in the area between Pera and
Hercules Roads.

And crews estimate more than five

the fire contained.

It's in a remote section of the

fire that has already scorched hundreds
of acres in Amherst County.

The fire near Peavine Mountain was
reported around 11 Sunday night.

Authorities say three separate
fires have burned more than 500 acres
in the area between Pera Road and
Hercules Road ... not far from the Blue

yesterday digging containment lines and
setting back fires- and more help is on

The fire is in a remote section of
the George Washington National Forest,
and officials say while some roads have

The two and a half year pursuit
allowed Rogers to travel, but he says

next spring in Washington.
