tonight to give their input.


Supporters say a new 18 million
dollar intermodal freight yard will
take more than 150-thousand trucks off
the interstate each year.

They also believe it will bring more
companies and thousands of jobs to the
area.

But Norfolk Southern realizes many
don't want such a facility in their
backyard.

after strong opposition the railroad
decided to look at nine other sites in

the Roanoke Valley, from Botetourt
County to Salem.

together what happened during an

apparent shooting that sent one person
to the hospital this afternoon.

Around 2:00, police were called to
a home on West Court for a shooting
complaint and found one person injured.

While they were there, someone
walked into the Danville Regional
Medical Center with what police say is
a non-life threatening gunshot wound.

Police say indications are the
shooting is related to an assault at
another home on Locust Lane where a
third person was hurt.

pathologist has been serving a 10 to 25
year sentence for second degree murder.

A jury convicted him in the 1998
death of a man who suffered from Lou
Gehrig's Disease.

three missing hikers aren't getting any
help from Mother Nature.

able to climb higher than seven
thousand feet.

And tomorrow's forecast doesn't

Families of the missing men are

under fire tonight- this time after a
sewer line burst sending waste into a
resident's home.

Street in Vinton.

This weekend they were forced out
of their home after sewer lines backed
up sending human waste throughout their
home.

Sandy Lynch blames the problem on
work done by the town within the last

Vinton is doing what it can.

It expects to hear something from
the insurance company within the next
day or two.

reading from Charlotte's Web.

It's for the most people reading

locations.

Six scholarships were handed out
tonight as the Roy Stanley Foundation
and Your Hometown station got into the
Holiday spirit and gave some deserving
high school seniors $7,000 dollars.

(END SOT) Community room was packed for the


annual banquet and those in attendance

would get to see a little history.

Rural Retreat quarterback Matthew
Heldreth who carries a four point one
grade point average and hopes to attend
Virginia Tech and major in Agricultural
Economics became the first person to
ever win both the Roy Stanley Memorial
grant and the $2000 Noel C. Taylor
Schoalr athlete award.

Heldreth, whose family operates a
dairy farm, is the second straight
Rural Retreat player to win the Taylor
scholar athlete award - and he takes
great pride is being from Roy Stanley's
home county of Wythe.

The four other winners of $1000
dollar grants hail from a different
corners of the region from Radford to
Martinsville.

September, 1996 Peter Boyle....best known as the

wise-cracking father "Frank Barone" on
"Everybody Loves Raymond" died Tuesday
evening at a New York Hospital.

He also starred in the films
"Young Frankenstein", "Puttin' On the
Ritz", and most recently, Walt Disney's
"Santa Clause 3" but what you might not
know is he was a monk before his acting
career started.

Boyle had a long battle with both
cancer and heart disease before it
overcame him at age 71.
