ahead, others want to derail Norfolk
Southern's plans to build a intermodal
railyard site in our region.

from trucks to trains.

The original site being
considered was in the Elliston area of
Montgomery County, but many residents
there balked at the idea.

Now the company's looking at nine
other sites -- including several in
Roanoke, Botetourt County, and one in

But opponents say the project will
just congest local roads and hurt the
environment.

against the project.

it appears many residents who live
near the proposed sites as well as
local governments oppose the new
railyard, while many business leaders

support it.

annual banquet and those in attendance
would get to see a little history.

Rural Retreat quarterback Matthew
Heldreth who carries a four point one
grade point average and hopes to attend
Virginia Tech and major in Agricultural
Economics became the first person to
ever win both the Roy Stanley Memorial
grant and the $2000 Noel C. Taylor
Scholar athlete award.

Heldreth, whose family operates a
dairy farm, is the second straight
Rural Retreat player to win the Taylor
scholar athlete award - and he takes
great pride is being from Roy Stanley's
home county of Wythe.

The four other winners of $1000
dollar grants hail from a different
corners of the region from Radford to
Martinsville.

sewer line burst sending waste into a
resident's home.

Amherst County led by their Head
Coach Scott Abell took home the Team of
the Year Honors, The Lancers won the
State Title this past Saturday
finishing the season with a 13 and 1
record.

evening, he was recognized as the
Double "A" coach of the year boted on
by his peers.

this season was George Washington their
Head Coach Dan Newell was voted Triple

GRAPHIC=DISCOVERY Astronauts from Space Shuttle

Discovery are continuing their work on
the International space station.

VO-NAT Today, they began retracting a

solar panel that's been in place for
six years.

Like an accordian, the astronauts
kept retracting, then deploying it
because one part of the 115 foot
structure didn't fold quite right the
first time.

The panel served as a temporary
power source for the station, but it
had to be moved for the permanent one
being installed later during this trip.
