It started near the Blue Ridge

thousand acres since.

More than 100 people were on the
lines, trying to get it under control.
Some of them will start heading home
today.

Authorities say the fire was
started by people, but its cause is

Earlier this year, Lynchburg
revised its panhandling ordinance to
prohibit people from soliciting money
at intersections and from median
strips.

That put a crimp in the
Firefighters Association annual "Fill
the Boot" campaign that raises money
to fight muscular dystrophy.

Donations dropped from 30-thousand
dollars in 2005 to just 3-thousand this
year.

City council last night adjusted
the wording of its panhandling
ordinance to reflect changes in federal
law.

Firefighters say they'll try to

meet with city leaders early next year,
seeking an exemption.
