presidential guard training base - just
hours after President Mahmoud Abbas
announced he would end Hamas'
nine-month rule by calling early
elections.

It happened early this morning in
Gaza City.

One guard stationed at the base
gate was killed, and three more were
reportedly wounded.

The assault touched off a fierce,
20-minute battle, and the sound of
gunfire was mingled with the call for
morning prayer.

The gunmen fled after
reinforcements were sent from other
presidential guard camps.

Abbas was in the West Bank town
of Ramallah at the time of the attack.

at least three seriously burned -- as
they continued to battle bushfires in
Southeastern Australia .

The nine were part of a group of
New Zealand volunteers who were
unexpectedly overwhelmed by flames.

The fires have scorched parts of
Tasmania, New South Wales, South
Australia and Victoria.

Cooler conditions today have
allowed crews to slow the fires that
have burned about 21-hundred square
miles thus far.

Police said more than 30-homes
were burned.

both as they continue to strike this
weekend.

Radford University is keeping its
Family Health clinics open another
month to give patients more time to
find new providers.

The clinics were supposed to close
December 21st, but January 25th is the

High winds across Seattle,
Washington caused headaches for local
residents- as it knocked out power.

gas stations across the region, but
yesterday some of the stations were
back in business- and people lined up
to get fuel.

One man decided to take advantage
of the situation and sold his emergency
gas at $25 dollars a gallon.

Gas wasn't the only hot ticket

Grocery stores were also packed.

A Pacific storm whipped up the
surf along the California coastline
yesterday.

Waves between ten and fifteen
feet were reported south of San
Francisco.

The National Weather Service has
issued a high surf advisory until noon
today.

That means - it's extremely

dangerous to fish or observe waves from
exposed coastal structures or rocks.

is still being remembered nearly a week
after her death.

Mountain Zoo.

There's also a bulletin board

wishing the famous feline farewell.

Ruby was put to sleep last Sunday
after struggling with arthiritis and

Zoo officials say there are plans
to bury her off zoo grounds, but won't
disclose the location out of concerns
for her safety.
