Whitaker says he will not play in the
Chick-fil-a bowl in Atlanta because he
is seeking treatment for alcoholism.

VO-NAT Whitaker has entered an undisclosed
in-patient rehab facility.
In a statement, Whitaker said he is
talking about his issues with
alcoholism because that's part of the
healing process.
He says while it hurts him
greatly to miss the bowl game, he knows
he will emerge a better person.
The 19 year old Whitaker was
arrested before spring practice for
purchase and possession of alcohol.
Cory Holt will now be Sean Glennon's
backup for the December 30th game.

arrest in connection with the murders
of five prostitutes.

year- old man Tom Stephens is suspected
of killing all five women.
He told a British newspaper that he
knew all of the slain women and had
been interviewed four times by police.
Stephens was arrested at his home

rural areas over a 10- day period.

Gates takes over during an extremely

administration. After admitting his
current approach in Iraq wasn't
working, the President is reviewing his
options and wants input from
Gates before he makes any policy
announcements.

The revamping of policy in Iraq
follows the long awaited Iraq Study
Group report.and its assessment that
conditions are grave and
deteriorating. More than 2900 U-S
troops have been killed in Iraq and

will be able to stand on their own.
Gates is planning a trip to Iraq very
soon and expects to get an
unvarnished assessment from troops
there on how to proceed in the weeks
and months ahead.

City of Salem successfully hosted the
Division Three national football
championship known as the Amos Alonzo
Stagg Bowl.
The game will be back next
season, and if the coaches in this
year's game have anything to do with
it - it will never leave the valley.

(END SOT) Saturday to watch Mount Union win its
ninth title since the Stagg Party moved
to Salem in 1993.
A group a folks just outside of
Dallas, Texas are competing against
Salem to host the game starting in 2008
- but don't bet on it leaving the City
of Champions anytime soon.

Salem will know in February if
its track record and current bid were
good enough to get a two year extension
to host the game through 2009.
This past Saturday Salem crowned
its 45th overall NCAA champion from the
six different sports it has hosted
since 1993.
