10- Virginia police officers have
died in the line of duty this year,
while 18 died in California.
The numbers come from The Officer
Down Memorial Page, a
nonprofit organization dedicated to
honoring America's fallen law
enforcement officers.
The group says the officers died
either by gunfire or in traffic
accidents-- and another suffered a
heart attack during a training
exercise.

anything but routine after deputies
found more than three pounds of
marijuana in the car.
The Sheriff's department says
38-year-old Robert Emmons of Oneida
oh-NYE-duh, New York faces marijuana
possession charges.
Emmons was stopped over the weekend on
Route 29.
Deputies arrested him and seized his
car.

arrest in connection with the murders
of five prostitutes.

Stephens.
He told a British newspaper that he
knew all of the slain women and had
been interviewed four times by police.

private White House event this morning,
the former CIA director was
sworn-in as Defense Secretary. Later,

time in Iraq. The Bush
administration is in the process of
revamping its strategy there�and the
President says he�ll wait for input
from Gates before he makes any
policy announcements.

sailed through Senate confirmation
hearings and pledged to speak
candidly to both the President and
Congress about what he thinks needs
to be done.

Staff�Colin Powell. He says THE
ANSWER ISN'T MORE U-S FORCES BUT

Oldrich made it through two rings,

hospital after allegedly being shot by
a police officer.

Authorities say the officer tried
to pull over Eric Dion Mays Saturday
night due to an ongoing drug
investigation.
It's not clear what happened
next, but police confirmed one of their
own drew his weapon and fired.
Mays was taken to Lynchburg
