understanding.

been voicing their concerns with
Carilion's plan to become a clinic.

It all stems from a meeting that
happened on Monday night between the
Carilion Administration, the Carilion
board of directors and the independent
doctors.

they felt encouraged that progress was
made in addressing their concerns.

File Tape One of the coalition's main concerns
was whether there would be a role for
private physicians within the Carilion
Clinic. Some doctors say the felt they
either had to join or be shut out. They
felt this would impact patient care and
affect the patient's ability to choose
their own physician.
But after the meeting the doctors say
they came to an understanding with
Carilion that they could work together
to develop a process of cooperation
between the independent doctors and the
new clinic.

Carilion officials released a
statement that says: " We were happy to
meet with them and take the opportunity
to reiterate our desire to work with

the number of homosexuals discharged
from the military has dramaticly fallen
off since the Iraq war began.
While the number edged back up a bit
last year, Democratics are now
promoting a measure to scrap the Don't
Ask policy altogether.
It's a toss up... whether it's working
or not, according to the local survey
results.
Forty-one percent said it hasn't
worked. Forty percent said it has.
Nineteen percent were not sure.
Our survey showed about one third of
those polled in central and southwest
Virginia feel homosexuals should be
allowed to openly serve in the
military. Exactly same number- -34%-
-said the Don't-ask- -Don't-Tell policy
should remain in place. More than one
quarter said gays should be completely
barred from the service. Four percent
were not sure.

pleaded no contest to four charges

He and two other teenagers

with a plan by Norfolk Southern.
Today, the Botetourt County board
of supervisors voted on an ordiance to
stop an intermodal center in the
county.
Two sites were named in Botetourt
off Route 460 - the board says the plan
would add traffic to an already busy
interchange and negatively impact the
viewshed of the Blue Ridge parkway.

in the NFL will be the Pro Bowl in
Hawaii in February and twin brother
Ronde will be right there with him to
enjoy it.
Tiki was voted to his third
straight Pro Bowl this afternoon -
becoming the first Giant running back
to make the squad three straight years.
This will also be Ronde's third
straight trip to the game and the
fourth Pro Bowl selection of his
career.

OQ=NEWS 7 SPORTS. << Mount Union was crowned the
(END SOT) Division 3 National Champion this past
Saturday in Salem. The Purple Raiders
won the title by winning 5 games in a
32 team playoff. Division 2 and 1
Double "A" hand out their title with a
playoff as well.
The only level of College
Football that doesn't have a playoff is
Division 1-A. One of the arguments is
that the extra games would get in the
way of classes and exams.

The Hokies wouldn't mind seeing a
16 team playoff. If they used the
Final B-C-S Standings this season, Tech
would be in.

Head Coach Frank Beamer a long
time proponent of the Bowl System sees
things headed to a different
conclusion.

nationwide this Friday.

Ferrum College connection to the tragic
plane crash that wiped out the entire
Marshall program in 1971.
Current JMU head coach Mickey
Matthews wasn't aware of the Ferrum and
Roanoke ties to the crash until he
began pounding the pavement in this
area back in 1990 - his first year as
an assistant on the Marshall coaching
staff.
