MINI CARS LOOK SMART AND SAVE ON FUEL
BUT WHAT YOU GET ON SASS AND SAVINGS

YOU LOSE ON SAFETY.

(bite - Adrian Lund,
President/Insurance Institute for
Highway Safety/4505) It's basically,
like you know, putting a featherweight
into the ring with a heavyweight. You
wouldn't do that and out on the road,
these smaller, lighter cars are at a
disadvantage.

A DISADVANTAGE OF ABOUT 300 TO 800
POUNDS COMPARED TO SMALL AND MIDSIZE
CARS. IN ITS FIRST-EVER TESTS OF MINIS,
THE INSURANCE INSTITUTE FOR HIGHWAY
SAFETY FOUND PASSENGERS ARE NOT GETTING
ADEQUATE PROTECTION IN MOST OF THE
VEHICLES IT RATED.

(bite - Lund/4645) If you're shopping
for safety, vehicles this small aren't
the best choice to begin with.

ON THE POTENTIAL SHOPPING LIST IS
NISSAN'S VERSA, MARKETED AS A MINI, BUT
REALLY IN THE SMALL CAR CATEGORY BY
WEIGHT. IT WAS TOPS WITH THE BEST MARKS
ON EVERY TEST - FRONT, SIDE AND REAR
CRASH EVALUATIONS.

THE LOWEST RATED: THE HYUNDAI ACCENT -
ACROSS THE BOARD. BUT OTHERS LIKE THE
SCION XB, TOYOTA YARIS AND CHEVROLET'S

TESTS EITHER.

Nat

AND THE MINI COOPER THAT'S GETS SO MUCH
MILEAGE ON THE "COOL" SCALE? (INSERT
graphic - whole list of eight) IT'S IN
THE MIDDLE OF THE PACK OF EIGHT TESTED.

(STANDUP)

INTERESTINGLY ENOUGH, MINI DOES NOT
NECESSARILY MEAN MINIMIZING THE GAS
BILL. SOME OF THE BIGGER CARS ... EVEN
MIDSIZE VEHICLES LIKE THE HONDA ACCORD
... COMPARE WELL WITH THE MINI COOPER
FOR EXAMPLE. BOTH AVERAGE 34 MILES TO
THE GALLON.

THE INSTITUTE SAYS THE DEATH RATES IN
MINICARS ARE MORE THAN DOUBLE THOSE
BOTH MIDSIZE AND LARGE CARS. SO THE
BIGGEST WARNING HERE IS TO PARENTS OF
TEENAGERS WHO ARE THE RISKIEST DRIVERS.

(bite - Lund/4408) It's a young person.
You get them a small car, but these
things aren't toys.//You need to have
them in something that's heavier.

IN THIS CASE, EXTRA WEIGHT FOR A
TEENAGER, MEANS EXTRA PROTECTION. TTA,

After a reporter noticed a bandage on
the first ladys leg last night,

the White House acknowledged Laura Bush
had a malignant skin cancer

tumor removed from her right shin back
in early November.

A spokesperson for the First Lady says
it was squamous cell carcinoma.

It's the second most common form of
skin cancer.

The Cleveland Clinic's Doctor Justin
Woodhouse says it can easily be

treated if caught early.

(Sot: Dr. Justin Woodhouse/Cleveland

"they're usually slow growing and once
they're taken care of there's no

real problem with them long term."

(Sirgany Bridge)

When asked about why nothing was said
about the cancer, Mrs. Bushs

press secretary said that the First
Lady considered this a private

matter.

But a few details have now been
revealed that Mrs. Bush noticed a sore

on her leg in late October that wasnt
healing. A biopsy revealed the

tumor and right before Election Day, a
nickel-sized patch of skin was

removed using a local anesthetic.

The White House emphasized the cancer
was detected early and caught

early and that Mrs. Bush continued with
her schedule, totally

uninterrupted. Doctors point out Mrs.
Bush does not have melanoma,

which is the most dangerous form of
skin cancer.

(Sot: Dr. Justin Woodhouse/Cleveland
Clinic)

"melanoma tends to be more aggressive
than squamous cell skin cancer,

it's the one that of course everyone
fears the most."

The experts say 98 percent of the
patients who have the type of cancer

Mrs. Bush had, and get treated early,
recover with no further

complications.

House.

The 20-million dollar, nearly
84-thousand square foot facility is the
biggest capital project in the county's
history.

It will replace the current jail which
was built to house 38 and often times
has as many as 100-inmates.

When the state of the art facility
opens it will initially house more than
120 prisoners and have room to grow...

is expected to be completed in July and

move-in is scheduled to take place in
October 2007.

It goes on to say that he has
entered an in- patient program, and
