to housing a new regional jail.

Last Night The Board of Supervisors last night
voted to rezone 125 acres in Madison
Heights for public use ... and that
could involve a regional jail.
Hundreds of area residents have
spoken out against the proposal ...
they're concerned about public safety
and the potential for property values
to drop.
The county says the site near the
Route 210 and 29 Bypass interchange is
the most convenient for the three
localities that would use the jail.

safety building is too small, outdated,
and has inadequate technology.

So the county spent twenty two
million dollars building a brand new
state of the art facility on Cove Road.
It houses a new 9-1-1 dispatch
center, I-T Technology, as well as the
fire and police departments.
Everything in the building is
designed to keep workers comfortable,
from the movable consoles to several
big picture windows.
Not only that, county leaders are
happy to announce the building came in
on budget and on time.
Some of the offices in the new
building are already up and running.
The hope is to have everyone moved in
by next month.

here in Virginia...
It it happens, it would be the first
increase in a decade.

So we headed downtown on a search
to find out what you think....
But we were actually hard-pressed to
find a store that pays the 5- 15 hourly
wage....
In fact, some employees even
laughed at the idea of making so
little.
But 450-thousand Virginians do work
for that wage...
And we ran into one of them, a
single mother who tried to hold her
family together making roughly ten-
thousand dollars a year, or 824 dollars
a month.

the number of patients with it.

and several independent physicians may
be getting healthier after a tentative
understanding about the Carilion
Clinic.

File Tape For months now, many private
physicians have voiced their concerns
about the clinic. One of the main
issues was the role of private practice
doctors within the clinic model. Some
of the doctors say they felt pressure
to join or be shut out and were also
concerned about the impact on patient
care.
But after a meeting on Monday night
with the Carilion Administration, the
doctors are encouraged that progress
was made in addressing their concerns.
They believe Carilion will be
supportive of private doctors within
the new system.
