Tonight, a fire in the 27 hundred
block of Massachusetts Avenue left them
homeless.

It started just before 5:00 and
when fire fighters arrived they found
heavy smoke coming from the home.

Thankfully, noone was inside when
the fire started.

Investigators are still trying to
figure out what started the fire.

County Police Electric Road has the
highest number of car crashes in the
County.

Police say the stretch of roadway
from Starkey Road to 220 has more
crashes than anywhere else in the city,
especially in front of Tanglewood Mall.

The top five crash intersections
include Electric Road at Elm View Road,
Electric and Ogden Road and Electric
and Brambleton.

Police say part of the problem is
due to the high volume of drivers
through this area.

Roughly 50 thousand people travel
it daily.

And police say the majority of
the accidents comes as the result of
aggressive driving.

Police have noticed that during
the week between the hours of 3:30 to
6:00 that there are more crashes.

property damage than physical injury.

It's expected that one point four
million Virginians will hit the road
this Christmas.

One thing they can expect,
besides traffic, is higher gas prices.

At an average of two twenty
one....Triple A says gas prices are
higher than they were last month and
this time last year.

match up....in Charlottesville self
serve regular is around two
twenty....those traveling to Richmond
should expect to pay two twenty two a

gallon....but Roanoke comes in at the
lowest at two fourteen.

dealers are off the streets in Bedford
City and County.

county sheriff's deputies announced the
arrests.

Investigators say some of the
suspects are major suppliers of cocaine
and me-tham-phetamine in the area.

Some were allegedly dealing
drugs from a house across the street
from Liberty High School.

from that location.

Across the country today, people
remembered homeless and formerly
homeless people who've died in the past
year.

In the Roanoke Valley, dozens
gathered at Coyner Springs Cemetery.

No homeless persons in the
Valley died on the streets this year,
though several died shortly after
finding shelter.

Based on 2004 statistics, about
15 percent of the City of Roanoke lives
in poverty. The Roanoke Regional Task
Force on Homelessness says many are
just one paycheck away from becoming
homeless.
