the country today in honor of former
President Gerald Ford.

States died late last night at his home
in Southern California.
President Bush applauded Ford's
presidency during an announcement from
his ranch in Crawford, Texas today.
Mr. Ford is the only person
*never* elected to either the
presidency or vice-presidency.
In 1973, Ford was selected by
President Richard Nixon to become Vice
President, after Spiro Agnew was forced
to resign.
It was just eight months later
Ford took the oath of office as
President following Nixon's own
resignation in the shadow of Watergate.
