Ruby the tiger died, and then of course
who could forget the missing monkey

monkey opened her unlocked cage at the
Mill Mountain Zoo and let herself out.

While on the lam, there were
plenty of sightings of Oops from Mill
Mountain to Roanoke Memorial Hospital.

Back in July, the Japanese snow
monkey opened an unlocked cage at Mill
Mountain Zoo and let herself out.

Oops' escape got plenty of
attention here locally and all around
the world.


In fact, the story was even
featured on C-N-N and the B-B-C.

But after a week on the lam, the
twenty pound monkey was captured and
returned to the zoo.

News 7's Justin McLeod checks in
on Oops and shows us never before seen
photos of her capture.

Zoo staff tranquilized the monkey
after cornering her in a tree.

Ford begin tomorrrow near his
California home before moving to the
nation's capital. Over the years, the
late President had several links to
Virginia. He often campaigned for other
Republicans, like this 1965 appearance
with Dick Poff in Roanoke. Ford also
spoke to VMI cadets in Lexington in
1983.

line, striking steelworkers in Danville
voted yesterday on a new contract that
could send them back to work.
Local leaders expect the vote count to
be close. The results should be made
public tomorrow.

And, negotiations between
MeadWestvaco and its local steelworkers
union will resume this morning.

Last Friday, the union
overwhelmingly rejected the latest
contract from the company by 91
percent.

Members have already authorized
the leadership to call a strike.
