Tim Kaine wants to increase vehicle
registration fees and sales taxes on
new cars to pay for transportation
improvements.

Registration fees would increase by
15 dollars this year and then another
five dollars in 20-10.

invasion.
Today D-day veteran Roy Stevens
himself paid one final visit to the
memorial he helped create.
Stevens died in his Bedford Co. home
New Years Day.
His funeral services were held in
Bedford today.

SOT FULL << It's hard to believe these are
INQ= the sights and sounds of January. So
far, only a trace of snow in Roanoke.
But don't get discouraged.
1960, one of Roanoke's snowiest
winters ever. Over 60 inches of snow
fell. How much of that came in before
January? None. The snowy turnaround
came during the final weeks of the
winter season.
While it is true the 1960's
through the early 90's contained some
of the snowiest years. Mild winters
aren't unheard of.
When it comes to warm weather. No
winter in the record books can hold a
candle to the year of 1931. It's dubbed
the Year Without A Winter. Average
winter snowfall was less than a half an
inch, and on February of that year, the
high closed in on 90 degrees. When the
east is warm, the west is usually cold.
That same winter, many parts of
California received record snowfall.
Even Los Angeles had an inch or two.
Several signs are still pointing
to a warm winter here. A weak El Nino
has kept a large trough out west,
suppressing the cold air from reaching
the east coast.
Historically, El Nino patterns
alter the path of winter storms,
temperatures and ultimately the amount
of snow we receive. Only time will
tell.>>

Early risers in Colorado saw quite
a show this morning.. what looked like
a spectacular meteor shooting through
the early morning sky.
Now there is a possibility that
this is space junk.. The Air Force
command says it could be that or a
meteor.
They hope to analyze the data to see
exactly what the object looked like
before it broke apart.
Whatever it was. .it provided quite a
show.
