When three art students from Roanoke
County threw a bunch of paint cans off
the roof of a 20-story hotel in New
York last year, City Police threw the
book at them.

The teenagers were arrested on a felony
criminal mischief charge, plus assault

and criminal trespassing.

This morning they appeared in a
Manhattan courtroom ready to plead
guilty to the single misdemeanor of
"reckless endangerment."

The negotiated settlement calls for
each of the teenagers to perform 200
hours of community service, pay a total
of nearly four thousand dollars to
cover the damage- -about 13-hundred
each... and send hand-written letters
of apology to management at the
Doubletree Hotel, to the 17th Police
Precinct and to two police officers...
one whose vehicle was damaged and the
officer who got paint in his eye.

January 4 Jeremy Scott Terry had already been
cited for driving under the influence
with a point-one-four blood-alcohol
level.

Today a Roanoke Grand Jury indicted him
on four counts of involuntary
manslaughter in the deaths of Ernest
and Wilma Ammermann.

Terry does not have a record of serious
offenses. He was not speeding Thursday
night.

But two of the four charges are for
AGGRAVATED manslaughter, evidenced by
"reckless disregard for human life."

It happened this afternoon, just
after one o'clock.

Police say 80-year-old Francis
Eugene Scott, who lives on Plank Road
-- pulled out in front of an oncoming
S-U-V at the intersection of Plank and
Lee Highway.

Scott was pronounced dead at the
scene.

Police say the S-U-V's driver,
22-year-old Krystal Gail Smith will
*NOT* be charged.

One of Smith passengers was taken
to R-M-H where she's listed in good
condition.

Two other people in the SUV were
uninjured.

hospital.

Police say this tractor trailer
sideswiped another car, crashed through
the guardrail and flipped over ...
missing this house by about six feet.

The driver suffered minor
injuries.

And an elderly woman was hurt when
her crashed into a utility pole and
caught fire on Old Forest Road.

The road was blocked in both
directions for more than an hour.

bus at their front door instead of a
bus stop down the street.

inch, 235-pound receiver announced
today that he is taking his 45 inch
vertical leap and his blazing speed to
the NFL and giving up his senior year
of college.

Johnson just wrapped up a junior
season in which he had nine catches for
186 yards and two touchdowns in his
final game in the Gator Bowl. He
finished the year with 76 receptions
for 1,202 yards and 15 touchdowns.
