some Southside residents.

Wednesday No one wants a repeat of last
week when the Dan River crested causing
severe flooding and damage in some
areas.

The river has receded some since
then but the National Weather Service
warns even one to two inches is all it
will take for another spill.

Emergency coordinators are
advising those who live in places prone
to flooding to go ahead and safeguard
valuables and be ready to evacuate.

left a number of families without a

home.

Flames ripped through the Park
Inn Apartments on Melrose Avenue around
Noon yesterday.

The Red Cross and Immigration
services are working with those who
were displaced to find shelter.

The damage is estimated at about
200-thousand dollars. The cause is
under investigation.

facing charges in connection to a
shooting on Spanish Oak Road.

Saturday Night Authorities say an argument
started Friday between two brothers,
but Saturday night it turned physical
when more people joined.

Randy Stump, a foster father to
one of the brothers sustained the most
serious injury with a gunshot wound to

the hip.

Another man David Hood was also
shot in the leg.

He's been arrested and charged
with malicious wounding of the first
victim.

Two other men, Douglas Howes and
Matthew Coggins were also taken into
custody on similar charges.

up it's lottery last year, surrounding
states have been feeling the pinch.

But now, the Virginia Lottery is
stepping up its game by adding a Sunday
drawing.

worker's union in Covington.

However, union workers reviewed
the latest contract proposal in a
series of meetings yesterday at
Covington High School

Parkway is at its lowest levels in
