tonight, where some people are being
asked to stay inside because of a gas
leak.

natural gas line near the corner of
Tennessee & Boulevard.

No injuries or evacuations
have been reported, but emergency crews

are asking people in the area to stay
indoors.

Fire crews are monitoring the
air quality and say there's no

They expect the situation to
be cleared up in about an hour.

Cars were moving in Wythe County, but
quickly hit a roadblock in Smyth.

State Police had 24 separate car
accidents in less than 3 hours.

We couldn't even get our cameras there.

Traffic on Interstate 81 around Marion
was at a standstill for miles because
of at least five tractor trailers and
five cars involved in wrecks.

to cutting city jobs.

employees, including police, were told
they could be laid off as the city

County last year.

It happened on Christmas eve.

The victim was just 11 weeks old.

more than two decades in prison for a
robbery turned deadly.

VO NAT A jury found 18 year old Lorenzo
Carter, Junior guilty of involuntary
manslaughter and armed common-law
burglary for the shooting death of
Meghan Price.


A second man, 21-year old Jason
Faulkner, is believed to have acted
with Carter. He's still on the run.

*CG locator Henry Co. Last February deputies were called to a February 2006 home for what appeared to be a robbery.

When they got there, they found
22 year old Price had been shot in the
back of the head while sitting on the
couch.

The jury recommended that Carter
get 20 years for burglary and 18 months
for manslaughter when he's sentenced in

as 10 people who live on Maiden Lane
and Windsor Avenue awoke to find their

tires had been slashed.

A van had been "keyed."

Vehicle owners had to change
tires to get where they needed to go.

One woman told News-7 it will
cost her 300-bucks to get her two tires
fixed.

Residents said it was the first
time anything like this had happened.

voting totals for Major League Baseball
were released this afternoon - and two
fans favorites got a lot of love from
the voters while another was sent a
veryloud message.

:00 Cal Ripken Junior is not only in
- but he's in with ease. Baseball's
"Iron Man" was picked by 537 voters and
appeared on 98 and half percent of
ballots to finish with the
third-highest percentage ever behind

Tom Seaver and Nolan Ryan. He is
joined in this year's class by Tony
Gwynn, who received 532 votes for the
seventh-highest total ever.

However, the voters basically
ignored Mark McGwire. McGwire appeared
on just 128 of the 545 ballots cast in
voting done by the Baseball Writers'
Association of America. He needed 409
votes to get in.

Championship failed to live up to its
expectations - unless you were a fan of
the Florida Gators.

The team that had no chance in
the eyes of the so-called experts
dominated the nation's number one team
from the second play of the game to the
end.


Say what you will about Florida
being able to score 41 points, but the
real deal was the Gators' defense -
that held the Buckeyes to just 82 total
yards.

in both the writers and coaches' polls.

Boise State - finished 5th in one poll

The Hokies Chick-fil-a bowl loss
cost them several spots, but Tech did
finish in the top 20. The Hokies 19th
in the Associated Press poll and 18th
in the coaches' poll.
