Roanoke Memorial Hospital overnight.

Pierre Lamont Carter had been served an
emergency custody order around 8:30.

Officer D-W Ayers ran into the water
after him, managed to get a hold of
Carter briefly, then lost him.

Roanoke's swift-water rescue team spent

ANCHOR ON CAM Danville authorities have released
GRAPHIC=None the name of the man who died in the

city's jail early this morning.

Captain Steve Salmon says
47-year-old Steve Edward Walker was
arrested Tuesday afternoon and charged
with assault and battery and being
drunk in public.

Shortly after midnight, a jailer
noticed Walker had stopped breathing
and was unresponsive.

Walker was later pronounced dead at
the Danville hospital.

Salmon says Walker was not under
any special suicide watch.

An autopsy has been ordered to
determine how Walker died.

cows this morning on Interstate 81.

The cattle escaped a trailer
being pulled by a truck at 65 miles an
hour.

One animal was seriously injured
in the fall, and had to be put down.

The other, wandered onto the
interstate in the median for 30 minutes
before the sheriff's office finally had
to shoot it.

The cow caused two tractor
trailers to collide in all the chaos.

The owner of the animals was
charged with failure to secure a load.

at the age of 84.

Gable in Band of Angels.

The actress was awarded one

setback...........Last night damaged
tissue had to be removed from his left

hind foot...This, after a new cast was
placed on Barbaro's left hind foot last
week to help realign a bone.

Barbaro shattered his right hind
leg in the Preakness. In mid-July
severe laminitis set in. That's a
potentially fatal disease caused by
uneven weight distribution in the
limbs.

We learned this morning he's
being treated aggressively for his
discomfort but his condition has been
stabilized.

The school has never had much
tradition in girls hoops, winning just
3 district titles in its history, and
making just one state tourney
appearance since the early 80's with
current NC State star Kadijah
Whittington. Manns starts two
freshman, one sophomore, a junior and a
senior who all hope to reverse the
trend.

unveiled its famous Sweethearts
conversation hearts.

This year's theme is pets.

Some of the new sayings this year
include "purr-fect," "my pet,"

"go fish," "puppy love," "bear hug" and
"love bird."

If you're mad at your Sweetheart this
Valentine's Day, there is even one that
says "Take a Walk."

Necco will produce about 8-billion
conversation sweethearts this year.
