A year ago, bickering between
anti-tax GOP conservatives in the House
and Republican moderates in the Senate
deadlocked the General Assembly.

In his speech last night, Kaine
noted areas in which he said there is
already agreement -- including the need
for about one billion dollars a year
in new funds statewide for roads and
rails and giving regions of the state
power to raise their own road revenues.

But now patients can treat both
problems at the same time thanks to
laser technology.

Now immediately after patients
have their cataracts removed, they can
also have a laser procedure known as
E-C-P to treat their glaucoma.

It works by lasering the glands
in the eye so they don't produce as
much fluid which in turn reduces the
pressure in the eye that causes the
damage.

There is no cure for glaucoma but
this procedure can help save vision.

About 14 percent of the
population over age 80 has glaucoma.
