who escaped from police at Carilion
Roanoke Memorial Hospital Tuesday
night.

Police resumed the search this
morning around nine, and will continue
throughout the day.
Yesterday, officers walked the

Lamont Carter was being served with an
emergency custody order when he was
taken to the hospital.
Just before midnight, Carter
bolted outside and ran into the river.

Virginians oppose changing state law to
allow hunting on Sundays, an issue
which could come up in this year's
General Assembly.

hunters Tuesday for their opinion.
34 percent favor Sunday hunting, but
61 percent oppose it.
We conducted a similar poll in

66 percent.
But a Department of Game and
Inland Fisheries' random survey of
LICENSED HUNTERS showed a different
result...a little more than half
FAVORED Sunday hunting.

Online dating scams are in at
number 9. Scambusters anticipate these
scams will grow even more in 2007.
At number 8 is a new category of
scams. Just like phishing emerged as a
new and very important category of
scams a few years ago, they predict
that a similar new category of scams
will emerge.
Job postings and overpayment
scams are listed at number 7.
They scam works by asking
receipients to cash checks from out of
the country and send back a portion of
the funds, keeping the rest as a
payment.
We found several cases of that in
2006.

Spyware threats come in at number
6.
Number 5 is Nigerian scams or
variations there of. I just received
one of these myself two days ago in my
email box here at Your Hometown
Station.
The author of the email is
allegedly having a hard time moving
12-million dollars from an African bank
account into the U-S.
As always, if you receive one of
these messages, hit the "delete"
button.
Viruses, worms, and trojans are listed
as the number 4 scam threat of 2007.
Number 3 is lottery scams. The
experts say to stay ahead. Despite
what the official looking paper says,
you haven't won anything.
Phishing scams are on the list at
number 2. We've received several
reports about phishing this week. One
example is an email sent to a Verizon
customer asking them to update their
personal information for the company's
new database.
Roanoke resident Kirsten Printz
was the receipient of that scam email.

state title, but Manns has since moved
across town where late last summer he
was named the new girls coach at
William Fleming. In between, he spent
time suiting up for Paul Westhead at
George Mason and Bill Foster at
Virginia Tech. Now it's his time to
call the shots, but Manns isn't sure
his past experiences mean a whole lot
to his current players.

tradition in girls hoops, winning just
3 district titles in its history, and
making just one state tourney
appearance since the early 80's with

Whittington. Manns starts two
freshman, one sophomore, a junior and a
senior who all hope to reverse the
trend.
