against a Montgomery County man accused
of killing his father.

William Reed Songer Junior is
charged with first degree murder in the
death of his father, William Reed
Songer Senior.

Songer Senior was found shot to
death off Merrimac Road.

Investigators say Songer Junior
confessed to the murder and told them
it happened while the two were arguing.

The case will go before a grand
jury in two weeks.

granddaughter safely got out of their
burning home late Wednesday night

the home on Breezy Ridge Road in
Woodlawn.

They arrived to find flames
shooting out the back and quickly
spreading.


Damage is extensive, but the

The director of the mint, Edmund
Moy (MOI), introduced two commemorative
coins during a visit to Jamestown
Settlement yesterday morning.

The gold and silver coins depict

scenes of the Jamestown settlement and
the three ships that carried the
English settlers to the New World.

Collectors lined up to be among
the first to buy the coins. A one
dollar silver proof is selling for 35
dollars. The five dollar gold proof
goes for 230 dollars.

At noon, the festivities move to Lee
Chapel for a service honoring his 200th
birthday.

The day will end with a Robert E. Lee
ball at the Hampton Inn.

Cole's amendment would put an end to
the tax- which is a big source of

revenue for localities.

Under the current phase out, the
state pays localities about 70- percent
of the tax.

defeated by a Senate committee.

Delegate Bob Purkey thinks so.

He's proposing a bill that would
allow localities to install cameras at
no more than 25- intersections at a
time.

Drivers who run a red light would

face a 50- dollar fine, but would not
damage their driving record.

Similar bills have met a swift
death in the House Militia and Police
committee, but this year it was
referred to the Transportation
Committee- where it could get a green
light.

If the bill gets out of
committee, Purkey believes it will pass
in the House, but not everyone is
convinced.
