GRAPHIC=Fatal Accident An accident Saturday night on
Interstate- 81 left a woman dead and
her husband hospitalized.

It happened in Rockbridge County
just past the Lexington and Buena Vista
exit.
State police say a tractor
trailer carrying cars was changing
lanes when it hit a nearby car, causing
it to spin out of control, and slam
into a guard rail.
72 year-old Carolyn Compton, a
passenger was ejected and killed.
The driver, Edward Compton, is at
the U-V-A Medical Center.
The driver of the trailer is in
the Rockbridge County Jail facing a
felony for hit and run.

GRAPHIC=Accident Two people were sent to the
hospital after a three car crash in
Salem yesterday afternoon.

Witnesses told authorities the
driver of the mini van plowed into a
car head-on causing it to spin and
strike a third vehicle.
All of this happened at the
intersection of Fourth Street and
Delaware around 1:30.
The drivers in the first two cars
are in the hospital. It's unclear
how serious their injuries are at this
time.

growing demands for affordable health
care in Central Virginia.

seven months renovating the old Elk
City Auto Parts building on Center
Street.
The new clinic will offer
additional exam rooms and a larger
pharmacy.
Doctors will also be able to
conduct lab work on site - something
that isn't available in the current
building.

Governor's School.
The students traveled to the
capitol to encourage local lawmakers to
keep supporting the program.

That was the question asked to kids
nationwide taking part in the Boys and
Girls Club of America.
One Roanoke girl's answer gained
her national recognition.

Martika Mann wrote a poem on
diversity last year, not knowing it
would be submitted in a national
contest.
The poem, "The Same As Me" was
submitted, and was selected to be
included in the Boys and Girls Club's
publication about diversity called,
"Making One Good World."
The local chapter of the Boys and
Girls Club is honoring Martika
Wednesday at the Main Branch of the
Library downtown.
She will read her poem and
present the library with copies of the
book.

Delegate Ward Armstrong has a
bill that would require the
Superintendent of public schools and
state health commissioner to work
together to combat childhood obesity- a
growing problem in Virginia.
Safety in public schools will
also be discussed in the state capitol
this week.
Delegate William Fralin is
proposing school divisions set up a
safety hotline.
Students, parents or school
personnel could call in to report
threats of school violence, suspcious
or criminal conduct.
An education committee is
scheduled to take up that bill later

ways to grow.

Earlier this week, News7 told you
about a new Family Dollar, cafe and
restaurant popping up in Craig County-
well now the county wants to strengthen
some of its existing businesses.
Recently the area's Industrial
Development Authority was given the
former Crown Store Equipment Company of
Virginia off of Kanawha
Can-a-wha Street.
The manufacture has been closed
for years, but County Administrator
Richard Flora says they're thinking
about turning the space into a business
incubator.
